I am signed up for the slow-ass group...

I will be there. I am in the second fastest group. It is a nice ride and you will enjoy it. If you rode it last year, they have changed the start location, but it seems to be the same route.

Do you know if they have advised the group start times yet?

Looking to ride to the start, do the ride, then ride back home. Should be 150km all up. Hopefully the rain will hold off, otherwise i will ride my training bike.

They published start times in an email update a couple of days ago. Copy paste from that email:

Event Schedule
Please arrive half an hour before your start time.
4:45am: Information/Baggage Tent opens
5:05am: Ride Briefing for 22-27kmph packs
5:15am: 25-27kmph Start*
5:25am: 22-24kmph Start
5:45am: 25-27kmph Start*
6:00am: Ride Briefing for 34-36kmph pack
6:10am: 34-36kmph Start
6:15am: Ride Briefing for 28-33kmph packs
6:20am: 28-30kmph Start*
6:35am: 31-33kmph Start*
6:45am: 28-30kmph Start*


From 10.00am: Brunch, Presentations, and Avantiplus Fortitude Valley bike giveaway.

*These packs will be split into 2 groups with different coloured bike numbers. Please refer to the colour of the bike number in your event kit to determine your start time. If you would like to change groups so you can ride with friends or family members, please visit the registration tent on event morning.

I am planning on riding to the start as well. Short trip from Ashgrove...

Indeed - not only that, but the entry fee includes the lycra! All riders must wear the provided jersey..

Have done this ride since its started 3 years ago and find the organization to be top notch .... Great pit stop in the middle and breakfast pack at the end.....this years jersey ain't too bad either (better than last year anyway)

This is an very well organized charity ride event, i wish all were as good, for a good cause. It caters for all ages and is an enjoyable ride through the suburbs of Brisbane.

Fingers crossed that the rain does what it needs to do tonight, and we just have nice clean fresh roads to ride on tomorrow morning when the sun is shining...



Oh, and MAMIL... BWAHAHAHA.... Middle Aged Men In Lycra I assume... Yes, a great target market for BMW. It is a great charity event, but absolutely it is also a great opportunity to remind us of the support of the sponsors. A useful symbiotic relationship...

Hi Le Velo, I was wondering how you found the 34-36kph group this year. I was in the 31 -33 group and it seemed a bit slow this year due to stragglers. I was thinking of joining the faster group next year. What was your actual average speed? Not sure I could keep up on the hills, although I could catch up on the flats no probs.

Hope you had a great ride and your team leaders knew the route? Ours got a bit lost at times on the run back. We ended up doing an extra 3 kms.

Had lots of fun and was on the front from take off to Cleavland point. Even had a turn in the lead for 15km, not many volunteered though due to the head wind. Plenty attacked (pushed in) on the run home though with the tail wind, same story as last year. So much for riding as a group hey. A big cheer to the organizers for another great event.

The ride back home sucked due to the now stronger (50km/h gusts) head wind . Oh well.....at least it did not rain.

Friend of mine in the fast group had a Strava Avg speed (via his Garmin) of 33km/h.

They got stuck toward the top of the Sir Leo Herschill (Gateway) Bridge when they caught the slow group there. (I cruised over the bridge and still beat his bridge time by more than a minute.)

Unfortunately the planning of the event did backfire in that respect. When the fast group caught the slower group in front and weren't allowed to pass it was very dangerous.
in saying that, the ride out was great..... Hats off to the guys out front that pushed all that wind!!!

We got stuck in the rear of the slow group yes before the gateway which made us slow down and crawl up and down the gateway .... we also got our fair share of wrong turns too and ended with a few extras K's. Not sure on the average for the ride itself as I didn't reset the garmin as I rode from home and back but ended with a total of 152km for the day with an average of 32.6kph
The pace of the fast group was ok when it got going but too many surges ..... I can honestly say that the B2GC was much easier even having cracked a 41.8kph on that one. It seemed that the escort was taking each intersection as they came which made the slow / start a bit annoying .... maybe they should've made it stop all or run all but again the event was well planned so hats off to BMW and to the blokes of Chem for leading the pack in the winds

He also said - up to Cleveland - the avg was nudging 33 and by the time they got to the bridge they had brought it up to over 34.
