Pretty much yeah.

Anyone else doing the Brisbane to Ipswich ride later this month? I've already highlighted the PT issues but the organisers have just posted this on their FB feed.
Brisbane 2 Ipswich Challenge wrote:FYI: Translink have announced on the day of the B2I there are some disruptions to the Ipswich line.

For those catching the train to the event on the Ipswich Line, trains will run as normal from Ipswich to Corinda (stopping all stations) and then express to Roma Street. There will be buses for the stations between Corinda and Roma Street.

**Updated: 07/04/2013**

The Prince Charles Hospital Cycle of Giving on February 24th.

Website: http://www.tpchfoundation.org.au/News-a ... -2013.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Dates: 24th February 2013
Entry Prices: Various. Landsborough (100km) and Caboolture (65km) $40, Clontarf (25km) $25, Boondall (10km) and Chermside (2km) $10.
Start: Landsborough, Caboolture, Pelician Park - Clontarf, Boondall and Chermside.
Finish: 7th Brigade Park, Chermside.

The are a series of routes to choose from starting at 100km from Landsborough, 65km from Caboolture, 25km from Redcliffe, 10km from Boondall and 2km from Chermside with all finishing at 7th Brigade Park, Chermside (Next to the Kids Space playground). There will be rest/water points at Landsborough, Caboolture, Clontarf, North Boondall Railway Station and at the finish. The detailed route map can be found here and a basic route map can be found here. For those starting at Caboolture 65km and Landsborough 100km Queensland Rail are providing one free one-way chartered train to nearby starting points (starting points are next their respective stations). Instead of driving all the way there only to go back again to pick up your car consider parking at Roma Street or Carseldine railway stations (Carseldine station is about a 10 minute ride from the finish line - I can provide videos of different routes between the two if requested) and jumping on the shuttle train provided which will run express to Caboolture and Landsborough. The train will only be stopping at 4 stations to pick up and drop off cyclists and officials. There will be people at the stations and on the train to assist in boarding and answer any questions. You can board the train at Roma Street, Carseldine and Caboolture railway stations. This train will not stop at any other stations to pick up and drop off cyclists/officials. Its best to arrive at the station 15-20 minutes before the departure time as the train may run early and wouldn't be stopped at the stations for very long. If you miss this free train the next service will be a regular all stations train and regular Translink fares and timetabling apply accordingly.

The free shuttle train: Roma Street to Landsborough schedule.
Roma Street depart: ~4.54am (Platfrom 10 - Long Distance/TravelTrain platform. Closest platform to the Roma Street Parklands).
runs express Carseldine
Carseldine arrival: ~5.15am
Carseldine depart: ~5.17am
runs express to Caboolture
Caboolture arrival: ~5.42am
Caboolture depart: ~5.44am
runs express to Landsborough
Landsborough arrival: ~6.15am

For those who enter to start at the 10km mark there are trains to the starting point at North Boondall Railway station but theses are regular all stations trains on the Shorncliffe railway line and regular Translink fares and timetabling apply accordingly. There are no free trains to the 10km starting point at North Boondall Railway station.

Brisbane 2 Ipswich Challenge on April 28th.

Website: http://www.brisbane2ipswich.com.au/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Dates: 28th April 2013
Entry Prices: $55 per rider/$100 per family (2 Adults & up to 4 Children Under 16. Children under 16 are free when accompanied by an adult).
Start: Reddacliff Place, Brisbane (66km route start)/ Robelle Domain, Springfield Central (27km route start).
Finish: Queens Park, Ipswich.

There will be a track closure on the Ipswich railway line between Corinda and Roma Street. This will affect those travelling by trains on the Ipswich and Richlands/Springfield line to the starting point and those from the finish back to Brisbane on the Ipswich line. At the moment trains will still be operating between Ipswich station to Corinda station. At the moment all other lines will still be operating excluding Doomben (No sunday services on the Doomben Line). There is a possability that all Ipswich line trains will still be running Ipswich-Brisbane but with a modified stopping pattern. It will stop all stations to Corinda and then depart as schedulled but instead of travelling Corinda, Sherwood, Chelmer, Graceville, Indooroopilly, Taringa, Toowong, Auchenflower, Milton stations and arriving Roma Street station it will divert onto the Tennyson loop onto the Beenleigh line where it will go Corinda running express past Tennyson, Yeerongpilly, Yeronga, Fairfield, Dutton Park, Park Road, South Bank, South Brisbane and then stopping at Roma Street before resuming its trip to Caboolture. So please check the Queensland Rail and Translink websites leading up to the event to see if this will be indeed be available. More info in the getting back section.

There are two routes to chose from. The main one being the ~66km Brisbane to Ipswich route starting at Reddacliff Place in the Brisbane CBD (next to the Treasury Casino) and the shorter 27km route starting from the second rest point at Robelle Domain in Springfield Central. The detailed route map can be found on their website and last years ride can be found on Strava. There are 3 rest points during the ride with the first at the Brisbane Lions Club (just south of Richlands Railway Station) the second at the 27km starting point at Robelle Domain and the third at the roundabout to Ripley (IIRC the roads from it don't go anywhere) along with facilities to grab some food, coffee, refill water bottles, sit down for a chat and some entertainment being provided at the finishing area at Queens Park in Ipswich. There are no chartered trains to or from the event so normal translink timetabling and fares apply to those wishing to use public transport to and from the event. The departing time for the event is at 6.30am on a Sunday in which case some trains might not arrive there before the event starts ie Gold Coast trains so please check Translink to see if your closest train station has a service to get you there on time. For people using Beenleigh/Gold Coast/Cleveland line trains the closest train station to the Brisbane starting point is South Brisbane station. For those on Caboolture, Ipswich and Richlands (there is a track closure on this weekend between Roma Street - Corinda so another route has to be sourced by those), Ferny Grove and Shorncliffe line trains the closest station is Central or Roma Street - Roma Street is close but street layout to get there isn't the best so its up to the rider to decide what station they'd like to use.

As I said earlier there is entertainment, food, drinks, toilets, coffee vendors etc etc etc at the finish. There are two nearby train stations being Ipswich and East Ipswich being the closest. Despite East Ipswich station being closer I'd recommend using Ipswich station as the station is under cover, has more seating, toilets available, can source more information from station staff such as timetables and information about the track closure between Corinda-Roma Street. There is a track closure so please check the Queensland Rail and Translink websites to be sure of your options to get home. There is a possability that all Ipswich line trains could run all stations as schedulled to Corinda station and then divert onto the Beenleigh line via the Tennyson loop to run express Corinda to Roma Street. This might not be a possibility so other arrangments might have to be made or considered to be picked up from Corinda station/Ipswich or find another way back to Brisbane such as another bike ride along the Brisbane River, riding the short distance to Yeerongpilly station on the Beenleigh line for a train to the city. There will be shuttle buses running Corinda-Roma Street along the Ipswich line for those living in between/express service to Roma Street however there might be restrictions on how many bikes that driver can accept at once or if they are able to be stored underneath. Last year there were about 600-800 riders over the whole route and the train back only had about 15-25 cyclists onboard as some chose to ride back to Brisbane/lived locally/close by.

The Challenge4Change Solstice Challenge

Website: https://www.challengeforchange.org.au/e ... -challenge" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Dates: 10th June 2013
Entry Prices: $80 per rider/$140 for pairs/$220 for teams.
Start: Holden Performance Driving Centre, Norwell.
Finish: Holden Performance Driving Centre, Norwell.

Just came across this so I don't have too much info about it. Its a endurance ride around the race track starting at sunrise and finishing at sunset. Sign on opens at 5am. The aim is to do as many laps as possible by yourself, as a pair or as a team. Fundraising for the event is optional. Any fellow BNA's interested in forming a team and hammering out some laps?

Heard of this event recently: Moreton Bay 100. It has an imperial 100 (161k) a metric (100k) and a 50k.

Departs Lawnton Show grounds Sunday 11th August. Website: http://moretonbay100.org.au/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Did anyone do the 2012 event? Was it any good? Looks like a nice ride, not dissimilar in parts to some of the local bunch rides.

Ah yes I forgot about that ride. I didn't get a chance to do the ride last year but I'm pretty sure this is the first time they have done a imperial 100 rather than a flat 100km ride.

Ahh, so it is. Unfortunately because the only retro bike I have access to is my wife's 1983 step through Malvern Star, the choice has been made for me :oops: Moreton Bay it is!!

This looks like a good ones for the hill climbers...

I just wish it was a bit later in the year, I am looking for some events to target as I return to cycling, but I don't think I will be up to the climb up to O'Reilly's by 19th May. It is a great ride if anyone is interested in doing it (though I didn't do it in a "gran fondo").

O'Reilly's Scenic Rim Gran Fondo - it has a "social category" (website: https://eventdesq.imgstg.com/index.cfm? ... OrgID=4913" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/events/417386731687786/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; )

One of Australia's most spectacular Gran Fondo's. The ride begins at DJ Smith Park Canungra and travels the full Lamington National Park Road featuring the 25km KOM 900m Ascent to the finish line at O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat. This 36km Gran Fondo is suitable for all levels of riders with KOM, QOM & Jnr KOM awards. Time guide - A grade 1:15, B grade 1:25, C grade 1:35 D grade 1:45, E grade 1:55, Social riders 2:00-2:30 This is one mountain climb you must do. Registration details released soon. Limited numbers are available. All Gran Fondo riders will see the Troy Bayliss Invitational Elite race begin in Canungra and will also be at the finish line to see the Elite riders finish at O'Reilly's finish line.

The Brisbane2Ipswich Challenge has been modified. The finish area has been changed from Queens Park to Bill Patterson Oval. Its basically the park in the next street over so its added a couple extra hundred metres for those that are catching the train back.

Haha, those pesky dura ace components! Its just had its new bike service anyway :P I hadn't planned on taking it because I don't have lights that mount on it but now might be the time to unleash it especially if they kept that hilly dog leg outside the Amberley AFB/Churchill. So many people struggled because they had charged along the highway thinking the last few km into town was flat/downhill only to find a couple sharp pinches - its only a 65km ride with around 750m of climbing :P

A little from column A and a little from column B. Last year a couple blokes did the ride on a pennyfarthing. I would have loved to have seen ther faces with the crosswind between Springfield/Yamanto :lol:

Only a few hours now till the Noosa Century, just doing the short course myself but the slightly different route for this year will still be very challenging. Silly me fell asleep after work so i'm degreasing the chain at 1am :roll: .

B2I was great, really enjoyed it, especially once we got out on the highway. The ride back was good too, apart from finding "The Bridge To Nowhere" - if only Strava could've shown us the segment before we rode it! :lol:

Great day at the Noosa Century, no grief from cars but there were some seriously dangerous riders out there, absolutely no clue. The pace in the 85k was quite moderate until Marcoola, then went pretty hard up the coast before a crazy hell for leather sprint along the entire length of Noosa Parade at 50+kmh. Managed about 4th in 2:17 which i'm VERY happy with! :D

My brother has been struggling with the flu so was happy with 2:51. Some good performances from local riders in the 160k too.

The B2I was indeed a great ride. The only thing I didn't like was that marshall at Richlands that went for a walk without telling anyone. It even caught out the event organiser and about 30 other blokes who overshot the turnoff by a few hundred metres before someone realised it. Oh the jokes that were made at him haha. :P :P :P After we overshot the turn off there was some Cyclocross action aswell which felt weird on a stiff CF roadie :P
Image

But the highlight of the ride was seeing this bloke. Had a little chuckle and gave him a thumbs up.

Ahahaha I was one of those blokes (though I'm not in that photo, sadly)! Didn't see you or I'd have said hello!

Yeah the one at the Peace Gardens. We were wondering which way to go, and the bloke I was riding with said the famous last words "it has to go somewhere, right?". Be good when it's finished haha.

Another Brisbane to Ippy rider here. one of about 500, i would guestimate.
This is an event quite different to most other fun rides, which is part of the fun but you get a few surprizes along the way.

The first 15 or so km is mainly on bikeways, not too much of a problem except for anyone coming the opposite direction ! :shock:
Also some of the places where centenary bikeway crosses main roads are very dangerous when being negotiated by large groups.

After that you can up the pace, the roads through Richlands to Springfield gave superb riding conditions on a Sunday morning.
The "new highway" from Springfield to Yamanto was also OK, but some riders were struggling on some of the long inclines.
The final leg from Yamanto was really really fun, relatively light traffic on the old main road into Ipswich from the south.

Overall a great fun morning, perhaps would be better if it started in a more user-friendly place than central brisbane.

I went for a ride this morning and was going the "other way" to you lot for a short time on the Centernary Hwy bikeway. I turned at the Jindalee Bridge and headed home. Too many bikes out for me. Was only going for a 1hr blast anyway.

Noosa 160km

What a lovely ride this was. Us Crouching Tigers had seven in the group and all finished within 20 mins of each other. Did the ride in 5hrs 25mins so personally happy with that. Great route, think it is better than the Rainbow Ride out of Byron and the Ipswich 100mile ride. Lovely scenery and a well run event.

cheers

Robbie McEwan's Gran Fondo, Gold Coast Hinterland, September 2013

Quoting Bobbie from the website http://www.gcfoc.com.au/bio.php#&panel1-8" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

"Join me on "Robbie's Gran Fondo presented by Ausenco". The ride will take you on a 107km loop from Metricon Stadium at Carrara through Nerang to Oxenford where the tough 6km climb up to Mt Tamborine (Eagle Heights) starts. Take a look back when you get to the top to see what all the hard work was for. After the first of two KoM's you can top up your bidons, have a quick snack and then enjoy a flowing descent to Tamborine Village. Take the time to recover on the flat section heading to Canungra before turning off Beaudesert-Nerang Rd where you are faced with the second climb of the day, the back side of Beechmont, which gets gradually steeper as you go and brings you onto the Beechmont plateau. After cresting the electronically timed King of the Mountain you'll be greeted by million dollar views in every direction but the greatest reward is the long steady descent down to the valley below and the final run in towards the finish back at Emerald Lakes - but not before one last leg burner at 5km to go over Alexander Dr, a 400m long wall.

For those who want something less intense & challenging we also have the Piccolo Fondo, 50km, staying on the flatter roads but taking in the foothills of Beechmont in the second half.
"

Some BNA members did the inaugural event in 2012 so there is a thread about it, which has just picked up again for the 2013 event:
viewtopic.php?f=15&t=56999" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Looks like a good event.
