The BNA SEQ Weekend Warriors

The name says it all

A few of us here met up to put names to faces for a group ride up Mt Glorious the other week and in subsequent discussion it came up that we should try to do something similar every couple/few weeks as some of us were getting back on bikes/doing the grand fondo later in the year/don't do alot of climbing etc. We don't go flat out all the way so I've put up some of my favorite rides and routes that includes a mix of climbing, long descents, flats and just complete breath taking scenery (the Kilcoy and return route is just breath taking). A lot of them go through small country towns so there's plenty of options for rest spots/catch up points and places to grab some coffee and food. So if you are sick of the same roads, want a fantastic backdrop to your rides, cars pissing you off, don't get out of Brisbane on a bike or want to join a friendly group for a ride this is the thread for you :P I don't know all the roads around SEQ so feel free to chuck your route in too. It doesn't have to be a mega long route like some of mine but mine are longer as some might want to venture out further away from Brisbane with fantastic scenery than they might have done on their own/something different. It also came up in the Brisbane to Gold Coast cycling challenge thread that some of us might do it as a group so if there are any large group rides feel free to chuck them in here and into the events thread. Here's something. After the B2CG ride how about continuing up to Springbrook? Any takers? haha :P

Routes:
Brisbane to Kilcoy and return Via Mt Nebo/Mt Glorious/Summerset Dam/Woodford/Mt Mee/Clear Mountain - 245km
Northern Mountain Challenge Via Mt Coot-Tha/Mt Nebo/Mt Glorious/Dayboro/Mt Mee/Clear Mountain/Sandgate Road - 214km
Brisbane to Mt Mee loop and return Via Clear Mountain - 167km
Brisbane to Gold Coast Cycle Challenge - 100km (Sunday 20th October)
Brisbane to Clear Mountain and return Via Petrie/Samford Range/Camp Mountain/Kedron Brook Bikeway - 95km
Brisbane to Mt Glorious and return Via Mt Nebo/Camp Mountain - 62km

Oh, and just in case others want to a few of us will be meeting up at Southbank (West End side of the Goodwill Bridge) and departing around 6.30 heading to Mt Mee and back.

I'll no doubt be doing the B2GC and return.
I head down at a reasonable speed, but not break neck speed - leaving plenty in the tank, if anyone is also...

If I do the B2GC I'll be doing the round trip too, so definitely interested :)

Great list of rides. Will get myself along to some of them.
Also, already locked in for b2gc and the gc fondo as well.
You can safely assume that I will be the back marker... :-)

Looks like fun!!

While I can't long-term commit to anything (kids' sport comes first!), I'm keen to hit up as many of those as I possibly can... I'm hopeless n the hills, but this looks like a great excuse to give them a crack... :)

Cheers,
Abby

We decided to just go up clear mountain instead. Missed a good ride. Squeaking bikes, wheelspinning going up clear mountain, missing cleat bolts, that nice forestry smell :P

Was a fun ride. The wheelspins up the mountain were a little worrying, but the views at the top (and the smell of the forest) were awesome. Looking forward to future rides :)

I'll be racing out at Somerset Dam on the Saturday so I was planning on doing a nice and easy run up Camp Mountain-Samford-Closeburn (Mt Samson Road)-Clear Mountain or vice versa around mid morning. But if others want to head out somewhere else I'd be up for that too.

Possibly, also depends on how I feel after Saturday.

Oh the Rapha Rising Challenge is on this weekend. Anyone here keen for Mt Coot-tha-Mt Nebo-Mt Glorious-Mt Samson-Clear Mountain-Camp Mountain? The last ride we did up Glorious and back was about 2k so this should be in the 2.5-3k range :P

I don't have time. If I do this Rapha thing, its going to be by getting the most climbing done in the shortest amount of time, which unfortunately means repeats of Cootha with maybe something else thrown in to break up the boredom...

Doesn't Rapha Rising start on the Monday?

EDIT: Nope! Blimey. Well I haven't ridden at all since last Thursday, guess I'd better do something this Sunday.

I might be up for a bit of a ride. If you've got a gang going I might tag along for the start (say Coot Tha/Nebo/Glorious) and then see how I feel. Don't want to overdo things on day one (seeing as I'm still trying to get back to 100% fixed), but I do want some decent climbs.

I'm a maybe for Sunday - been sick all week so will see how I'm feeling by then. Might be part of the way too - unlikely that I'll be up for 3k climbing even if I make it.

Good luck at Somerset tomorrow too - would love to join you but I'd cough up a lung!

Div 1 or 2 race?

I'm down for Div 2, not ready for the 100k version yet

Hahaha. I was tossing up between divs. It will be my first road race so I thought I'll stick to the best division. Anyway I don't think my legs would be able to do the whole 100kms at pace since I haven't been on a bike since last Friday or Saturday or something.

My first road race too, thought I'd throw myself in the deep end. See you there!
