dare i ask what is everyone's best time for b2gc? I'll presume it was draft assisted.

i may go solo this year....there's been issues before with mates flatting on the way to the start, and us having to start amongst the 30+'s who can't do 30+.

my priority this year is to start as close to the start line as possible, and get into a faster early pack...which often have police escorts and right of way through the traffic lights. plus the headwinds are not as fierce for the return ride :)

anyone aiming to catch the train home after last year's debacle?

Last year I got to the start at what I thought was an early enough time, but there was already 2000 ppl there in front of me.
I think I passed 1000 of them by the end of the bus way but couldn't bridge to the lead group.

yes, same experience. heaps of people getting into the 30+ group who shouldn't be there....and they spread themselves across the Busway southbound lane

I don't care how long it takes me this year. By the time I get home I think it will be close to 300km for me.

This is what I'm planning on this Sunday

The forecast looks good at this stage. Parking at the usual Middle Park at Tamborine Village, just near the intersection of Waterford-Tamborine, Beenleigh-Beaudesert and Tamborine Mtn Rds (phew, don't ask me to repeat it. See map.)
Proposing a 6am start from there.
It's only a tick over 100kms but with probably about 2500-2600 mts elev.
If on the return you don't want to do the Goat Track back over Tamborine, there is the flat Mundoolun Connection Rd option from Canungra back to the cars if the legs are 'disobeying' you.
Happy to give someone a lift. Room for one passenger, but can fit two more bikes (besides mine)
Bring cash/phone/spares, usual stuff. The café at the top is good, with great views of course.
PM me if you are keen, or reply here.
winstonw will be a starter I'm sure, and it sounds like Lukeyboy would like to open his GC Hinterland palmares with a nice scenic ride!
Hope to see some of you there.

How did the ride go ?
someone must have made it, a friend who was up there reported some jubilant road cyclists describing their acheivement at the cafe. :D

ha. don't know if anyone was overtly jubilant. we were just sitting furthest from the counter, hoeing into coffee and burgers/raisin toast.
great weather, though got pretty hot on the way back. 9 of us all up. one rode down from Bris, and two from Logan. the rest of us drove to Tamborine. only 2 rode back up the goat track over tamborine mtn, phil and tony. the rest took the flat road from Canungra to Tamborine. the beer at Tamborine pub went down real well, though a bloke there in full cowboy outfit rolled his eyes at the lycra nicks. suppose he leads a sheltered life on his Mum's farm :)

We saw the Coyote Racing group a couple of times, first at the top of Tam Mtn when Mitch Neuman and Andy Patten arrived well ahead of the others. They rode from Logan I think over Tamborine Mtn, then Canungra, OReillys Tamborine. One of their Dad's drove behind them as support vehicle. How sweet is that.

That would have been a nice ride, but the heat on the way back would have been an issue.
I have ridden up to Binna Burra (Qld) twice, first time in 1988 via Canungra (STEEP  )
More recently 5 years ago via Nerang, which is a bludge by comparison.

1988!!!!

You're WELL overdue.
It's not steep from Canungra. There wouldn't be much over 10% I'd say.
Heat wasn't an issue, just keep drinking, unzip the jersey and man up!
There's always a beer at the end of it to help out with motivation.

Hope to see you on the next one.

Dunno, didn't feel it. Maybe I was focused on the bacon and egg roll that was going to be 'inhaled' at the café!! :D

honestly, I am a weak overweight climber (have climbed it when 92kg...am now 86kg, but should be 78)....and always ride my own tempo. so am usually last up. but I honestly don't find Canungra to Binna burra overly challenging. I think if you have a 34/28 combo, you can get up it very comfortably. We had a 62yo who weighed 94kg get up fine. He and I actually talked all the way up through that section. And that's the thing, the traffic is pretty much non existent before 730am, and the ambience brilliant, so you can just relax into the climbs and ride two abreast as you hear the traffic coming well before it arrives....no hurry.

anyway, if anyone thinks they wouldn't be strong enough for these rides, let me assure you SS and I have regular regroups and never make it an all out swinging d*** competition! :) It's all about good company and conversation amongst beautiful country and scenery. Though I wouldn't call it a coffee ride :) (that's a play on Coyote Racing's new jersey logo "We don't do coffee rides") :)

Any segment where I only average 14.4km/h I would consider challenging lol
