Also, their is the Thursday TdR (Tour de Redcliffe) on a Thursday morning - group leaves from Lifecycle as well.
And yeah - pretty much every morning there is a group leaving from LDV on Park Rd...

I would rather not pay to ride with a group, I don't see what you get for your money.

And of course, if you ride with Marcel you are not allowed to socialize with other cyclists.

I didn't think all rides attracted a fee...and there's some very nice people in MB's groups.
And there's benefits to starting in organized rides under experienced riders (not necessarily Marcel, who I understand is not as 'fit' as he used to be).
One of the benefits is that breaking a cervical vertebrae, as happened to a guy in a Sunday Cycleogical ride early last year) is less likely if new riders are taught well how to ride in a pack.

I've known Marcel for many years. He's an astute businessman, and his business is cycling. He put a few bike shop owners noses out of join when he started, but now there are quite a few imitators. So yes, you have to pay to join his rides. And for anyone new to cycling it's a great way to get started.
Quite right, there are some very nice people in his groups, but they don't socialize with the other cycling groups. Marcel even bought his own coffee shop.
And yes, he's getting rather porky now. Last time I saw him he was riding a scooter, motor pacing a small group out at Nudgee Beach.
Crashes on Cyclelogical Redcliffe rides are nothing new. Some people just can't get it through their heads that the roundabouts at Scarborough are slippery, particularly when wet. I don't do them any more.

yep....I'd agree with that. the ex bought her bike from him, on my advice cos I heard he was a specialist in "fitting" women.

so, through all that, got to see how he operates, close and personal.
nevertheless, I think he has some good underlings in his lair now (although not mechanics, though I heard he's got a fresh off the boat experienced Pom in the backroom now), and stand by my original sentiment.
and we've had some Pinkies merge into our group rides on a few occasions, and they've been top shelf...as have been the MB "B" group!
as much as people slag off at MB, I kind of agree with the overly regimented group riding thing. even for experienced solo riders new to group riding.
After what I've seen, the value of an ounce of prevention is indisputable.
P.S. I think MB does intro group riding better than that other LBS that stocks a lot of exy bikes ending with "o"...which I think is not at all.
