I'm as sick as a dog at the moment so haven't been riding. But hopefully over Xmas I will challenge myself and give Cootha a go.

Mt coot-tha for beginners....
Step 1 - ride up it.
Step 2 - ride down.

I agree with the previous poster who made the comment about "talking it up", i put off doing coot-tha for a bit, even piked at my first attempt where the road splits after going up the hill past the gardens (i was 40k's in though which was a lot for me at the time, and decided to just have a look at it)

The next time just rode slowly up it in my easiest gear keeping the effort low, while it was hard at no time did i hit a point where i thought I wasn't going to make it, or had to stop. (this isnt talking myself up, my strava times put me smack bang in the middle of the pack, as many people are faster than me as slower)

I'm a newbie cyclist as well,
Headed up to Cootha a few weeks ago and started by going up the easier way (can't remember if that's front or back). That wasn't too bad, so hit up the opposite direction the second time round. Pretty bloody hard but manageable. Quite addictive, can't wait to hit it up again
