Hazards on Coro drive bikepath.

Over the years i have seen many hazards on Coro Drive bikepath.
It is a worthwhile piece of infrastructure, but not a good place to go fast.(in other words, fast bunches should USE THE ROAD).

Anyhow, this morning i had my scariest incident ever on Coro Drive, (near the Regatta) - I collided with a big Duck.

Not injured (me) but got quite a shock and feathers went everywhere. :(
Turned around to see how the duck was, and it had retreated to the riverbank, looking remarkably intact but missing a few feathers.

So in other words it is still around, and will still be a hazard in this area because it has youngster ducks. :|

You are probably not going to believe me but I rode in to the city from Toowong along the bicentennial around 12pm today and saw a duck limping !!!!! I wondered to myself at the time what may have happened to it.

After my meeting I rode back to Toowong and saw a family of ducks drinking from the "dog bowl" attached to one the drinking water taps along the path near Toowong.

You see so much more when riding a CityCycle at 20km/hr :-)

I think i saw that duck the other day, it was on the left of the path then as i went past it angrily hissed at me and moved towards my line (or whatever it is angry ducks do).
I'd expect it if i saw a bunch of ducklings near it, but there were just a few other ducks off to the side?

after a couple of days of reprieve the aggro duck is back on the bikepath.
It also chases peds, which is not at all good when they take evasive action into the path of bicycle.

Had my first experience with this duck tonight - commuting home along the bike path at about 8pm and the duck actively moved towards my front wheels. It must have taken a few pointers from magpies in swooping season but I think it must have a total death wish!

It's a duck. It's not a big thing. Slow down and go round it. It's a bike path not a crit track.

Man I'm glad I don't live in the city :)

But it chases cyclists !

I'm sure it is only a seasonal thing, protecting its offspring.
Anyway its got more than cyclists to worry about now, the upgrade of that section of bikeway has commenced and there were traffic controllers and workers in the duck zone this morning.

For DUCK'S sake, it's just a DUCKING Duck!

If it's aggressive and has a go at you, just clip out with your preferred foot and give it a good old DUCKING kick!

And before all the hairy arm pitted do-gooding whingers start bleating about this method, give me ONE good reason why this said DUCK should have it's own way on a fairly populated thoroughfare! Relocate it, if it bothers you.
I would recommend the heavy duty cable tie attached to a besser block and utilise the 'very handy' river right next to you!

(The irony of this, is that if I were charged and convicted of doing what I just mentioned, and got a magistrate on a 'bad day', I COULD get more than the pissed P-Plater that KILLED a cyclist in Cairns last May!! He was convicted today and will spend 1 year in gaol!!)

DUCKING pathetic...

rant over

Nah, just need mankind to DUCKING wake up to themselves and figure out what their priorities are!

Maybe they have!

Then it's probably time to hop on the next passing meteor and get the DUCK out this place! :|

Anyway, in the mean time, I'm off to the fridge for a frosty one!

Take care out there kiddies...

It's a duck. Leave it be. Humans are the trespassers.

Which came first?

The chicken.. the egg.. the ape.. the dinosaur.. the human.. or.... the duck?

I love it when threads go off on a tangent like this.

If we're trespassing, maybe we should ALL DUCK off!
This stubby has a hole in it.. time for another one.
