Kurilpa Riverfront Renewal Draft Master Plan

Postby mmc22 » Thu Sep 18, 2014 11:20 am

A new masterplan was released last month outlining strategies for South Brisbane around Kurilpa Point and down towards west end following Montague Rd and Riverside Drive.

In terms of cycling and pedestrian access it looks at least it will have an impact upon the final stages of the Riverloop... especially with the closure of Riverside Drive and the potential of redeveloping the northern portion of Montague Rd into a more 'High Street" destination. Plus side being... more cafes at the end of the loop :)

Reclamation of the river is a positive step IMO, but exactly how it's handled is to be determined.

A presentation is happening next week to disuss the current planning;
Date: Thursday 25 September
Time: 12:30pm - 2:00pm
Venue: Institute of Architects, 70 Merivale Street, South Brisbane
RSVP: Monday 22 September narelle.robinson@architecture.com.au
Limited places available - RSVP is required.

Released on 21 August 2014, the draft Kurilpa Master Plan sets the framework to guide the transformation of Brisbane’s largest inner-city renewal precinct in two decades. Come along to learn more about the vision for Kurilpa, with a key focus on the built form and public realm aspects. This is your opportunity to hear the thinking behind the draft plan and share your ideas with the project team. Further details on the Kurilpa Riverfront Renewal project at kurilparenewal.com.au

Here's hoping the 'bicycle lane' doesn't become a shared use sh*t fight.

I read an article the other day which quoted a prominent West End property developer describing West End as a "just a lot of old buildings and warehouses". So, it looks like from Orleigh Park to GOMA is to be "replaced" by high density housing and "urban renewal", much like vast areas of the CBD and the surrounding inner suburbs. I wonder what's going to be left of old Brisbane? So far we have one convict building, a couple of colonial buildings, a couple of post colonial buildings, a few late 19th Century buildings, a couple of early 20th........ there's a pattern to this.
