It's very nice up there at this time of year. Heading out as the sky begins to lighten before the wind, sun and motorists is great...though trying to locate the cause of a puncture before the sun gets up isn't much fun.
Often see local groups gathering in the carpark of the Seafront Oval, Pialba [they usually seem to get enough for fast and not so fast groups...quite large on weekends] and the park across the road from the pub at Scarness. They seem to wait until after lights are necessary before setting off. Perhaps they took Easter off. Sometimes see them out the back heading towards the hill. Panoramic views from up there too.
I should have been up there this week, but couldn't be arsed with the trek. Had to make do with a couple of river loops this morning. Foggy dampness on the way in was a nice change from the heat.

There is a big group ride Saturday leaving at 6 or 6:30 from a coffee shop at Scarness. Going up for SO's family this weekend and will be participating in it! It's great to get out for a ride up there.
When I have been up there I will generally ride out from point Vernan along the esplanade and then past the airport(hardly one) down to river heads and back. Makes an easy 60km
