Crazy Ultimate Mountain StageI was thinking of going on a ride next month that goes over all the major mountains (Nebo, Glorious, Mee, Coot-tha) in one go. Anyone keen to kill themselves with me?

i'm down!
i mean up! but i can't necessarily marry my confidence with my abilities. but i will give it a go!
I take it that you are going up Mt Cootha first, then Nebo from the Gap, and then continueing on over to Glorious, down into Samford and out to Dayboro, then up Mt Mee, and back through Wamuran/Caboolture?

If you plan it for this time next year, I might be fit enough to come along...... right now I would be comitting sucide to try that. I did do basicaly that same route many years ago, just minus Mt Cootha....
But, it does sound like a good day out, some beautiful scenery on alot of that route, have fun. Andrew
I did some more thinking.....(dangerous, I know

I've been contemplating a similar thing and plotted it on Bikely, except it was Cootha, Nebo, Glorious, Mee then Clear mountain. Didn't put it up as a pubic route because I only do that with rides that I have actually done.
Came up as 209k with 2604m of climbing I'd be interested in joining you if it is a date that fits, but unfortunately that is a bit narrow for me so it mightn't work. Ideally 26th Oct or the following weekend? But even those aren't definites for me. No guarantees expected wither way, but keep us up to date with your plans Chris.
yeah - that date sounds goodish.
but my sister is about to give birth - so i may have to rush off to melbz. but i am pretty flexable otherwise.
Hey Chris
I see you've plotted a route on Bikely. G'donya http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Ul ... tain-Stage Is this the route that you are thinking for this ride? It looks pretty good, I've never done those roads you've plotted off the top of Mt Mee (Sunrise, Robinson, etc etc. Have you done them? What are they like? Do we still get a fun downhill out of them?
Yeh those dates sound pretty good! Yeh i think turning around at the top of Mt Mee would be a better idea, i really like that descent because its so windy

So are we going to try to get this ride happenning this weekend or next weekend fellas?
I cannot do Saturday but could do Sunday 26th. I'd prefer a pretty early start on the day if we can get it together, eg 6am at Eatons Hill (I'm out at Lawnton). The route that Chris plotted, but turning around at the top of Mt Mee instead of going on through Morayfield...it'll shorten the ride by a bit?? What do you think? you over that hangover yet Chris
Hahaha im good whenever.. i cant do any saturdays coz i got crits every week!
I got up this morning and did cootha and i felt like absolute crap the whole time it was horrible. Somehow i broke my record though Yeh its gone.. Fastest Century: 100km in 2:52 at 35 km/h

This is sounding like it could happen. Excellent!
How about Chris and I meet at the T-Rex at the vet's clinic on South Pine Rd at 6am Sunday. Then we meet up with Winona at the Church on the corner of Waterworks Rd and Jubilee Tce at about 6.30am? Re coffee and food, Samford will be about the half way mark so good for a longer break, but other breaks possible at Mt Coot-Tha, Mt Nebo Cafe, Mt Glorious Cafe, Dayboro Cafe (before or after the climb...or both!). Where we stop is 100% flexible from my point of view, I'd just have to flag that I prefer a few short stops rather than one or two really long ones...Long stops actually make the ride harder if you ask me (plus I cannot take the whole day to do the ride due to other committments). Hope that sounds OK. I'm sure we'll be able to find a happy balance on the day Perhaps we should PM with mobile numbers incase we need to contact each other on the day? Looking forward to it.
Hey w_r I don't think that'll happen, you were doing a nice 34k average 51 k into the gold coast challenge. Chris averaged 35, and I had the same stats as Chris ie rolling time of 2:52 (AT) 35k (though unlike him I stopped at the 76k stop, so he wins...oh that's right, it wasn't a race!). We won;t be averaging those times on this ride though! more like 26 or 27 I'd be guessing.
Yeh shorter breaks are much better.. my legs ache if i get back on the bike after a long break.
And yes... we wont be averaging 35 on a mountain stage.. not quite a TDF rider yet Fastest Century: 100km in 2:52 at 35 km/h

Edited the course to turn around at the top of Mt Mee... http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Ultimate-Mountain-Stage

Check the Audax calendar around September/October next year. They run a 200k ride that takes in Mt Nebo, Mt Glorious and Mt Mee. It doesn't actually climb Mt Coot-tha, but it does have several sharp climbs in the stretch to Kilcoy after descending Glorious. I measured around 3,000 metres of climbing on that course in this year's edition.
Sounds like something id definitely be interested in.
On a side note.. i'm going to be looking sexy tommorow in my King of the Mountains polka dot jersey, just try and stop me lads. Fastest Century: 100km in 2:52 at 35 km/h

Hey Chris I'll leave you to type the "full report"
However, thanks for a great ride Chris and Winona. Decidedly harder than I thought it'd be and definitely could have done without the head wind on the final 22k from Dayboro to Lawnton, but non-the-less a great ride at 152 k with 2317m climbing. Lets do it again sometime (2010 should be good
it was fantastic! good company - good ride.
just wish i could have finished it - story of my life these days! you are a machine pax! awsm skillz. the thing that sticks in my mind is that decent from glorious. wow! i have a new appreciation for my brakes. but really need to get some decent skillz - like road line-wise. kept trying to keep left cause i just assumed a motorbike was on my tail about to buzz me.
