Going up to Gold Coast and house sitting for friends for 10 days in July. Because if a minor change in plans, there is the opportunity to do some riding up there.
Would love to know some recommendations to hire a bike up there (proper drop bar roadie with discs preferably).
Any recommendations?
Also, any good routes that involve some climbs near Nerang/Benowa ?
May be able to do some driving to get somewhere, but prefer not too far.
Thanks
Michael

Just Ride shop at Nerang have bike hire. Beechmont is the popular climb just past Nerang. Just ride do a Sat & Tues morning shop ride. Bicycle Centre Nerang (next door to Just ride) do a Sat and Thur morning ride. No real hills around Benowa, A loop out to Pacific Pines via Arundel & Helensvale is a good early morning ride as well. Coast drivers are no better than anywhere else. A ride out to the Hinze dam is Ok from Benowa as well. That's my favorite after 8.00 am ride, Cafe's good there too.
Aus motorists are safe to kill a cyclist at any time & confident that they will be protected from any serious penalties.

Cheers. Know the Just Ride shop at Nerang, and see they have bikes, but are a bit exact at $70/day, but will ring and see.
Are those loops you mentioned easy to suss out (e.g. From Strava or similar) ?
Fancy trying Tamborine man as well, as drive up there heading to the Tree top challenge - lotsa steep pitches !!

Cheers. What is the route like if I continue to Canungra and back to start ? Busy road ? Like the idea of a loop rather than up/down the same stretch.RobertL wrote:Try Henri Roberts Drive up to Mt Tamborine: https://www.strava.com/segments/1166693

What is the steepest pitch of the climb ?

Looks really nice, and easy to do from where I am staying (I'd probably use the Nreang Broadbeach Rd to get across the M1 and onto Station St/Hinkler Drive). Any reason for doing the loop clockwise rather than anticlockwise ?A_P wrote:this is a good loop https://www.strava.com/activities/830921097/overview
