Just got this from Bicycling SA Bicycle SA has received a number of reports from riders of wire and other dangerous objects, including bricks, being placed across the Coast & Vines Rail Trail, between Marino and Willunga, south of Adelaide. These objects have allegedly been deliberately placed across the trail in a way that poses a serious threat to riders and other trail users. Reports of barbed wire strung between posts have been received.
We have passed on the reports to the SA Police and the City of Onkaparinga. the SA Police have responded by referring the matter to their intelligence unit; and they will also get their Bike Patrol to check and monitor the Coast & Vines Rail Trail. At this stage the City of Onkaparinga has not confirmed their response, but we have been informed they are considering having their Crime Prevention Team run surveillance along the trail; and working with their maintenance department to monitor the site.
Please contact the SA Police if you have any further information -- telephone 131 444.
I had a good bike ... so I fixed it

A budddy of mine ran into some wire strung across this path not 12 months ago. The wire snagged his handlebars, flipped him up and over and to add insult to injury his wife couldn't stop in time and collided with him.
He said that had he been a young child the result would have been disasterous.
This is my main riding path down south so thanks for the heads up.

the police couldnt care less really
you could have an arm amputated by some idiot and you would probably get the standard 'yeah we cant really help you, resources are low' response
SA police - thanks for absolutely nothing
if i get killed while out on my bike i dont want a 'memorial ride' by random punters i have never met.

Maybe the police might say 'Sorry, we're busy catching murderers, rapists, bank robbers, thieves and other violent thugs but we will get to this as soon as possible.' I'd be pointing my finger at the idiots' parents and saying 'Hey, crap job you did with parenting there! Pull your finger out and get a clue.' The story was big enough to get amongst the first few items on Channel 7 news so at least it is out there. The Southern bike paths were so busy yesterday that it would be impossible to set these wires up during the day. At night, however is a different story. Tim

i have not heard these sort of things being part of SAPOL's work, there is an element of danger in aprehending genuine criminals and no revenue in it.

in defence of the cops, there has been a big presence of motorcycle cops riding the southern trial to ensure it safety.... i have passed to motorcycle cops riding the expressway in the last dew days.... nice to see them doing this, altho they still had time last week to bust me for "obscuring my numberplate" with my bike rack... 3 demerit points and $330 bux later... grrrr - hmmm why am i defending them again?

G'day I nearly got hit by a guy pulling a trailer the other day. His vehicle number was obscured and his trailer had no number plate so I couldn't report him. Maybe we need to be responsible too ... I know I need to fix this issue on my car. Andrew

c'mon now, enough cop bashing...
sit back for just 2 mins and think 'seriously' about where we'd be without them.
i know a few of them that 'have' taken murderers off the streets.
also ask yourself, would you be willing to do that job?

it may not be the world's best job, but surely the point to be made is - as you allude to in your final phrase - those that seem unwilling to do their job. There's too many of them, unfortunately.
And in saying that, the last time I reported an incident to police they were absolutely brilliant in following up and assistance.

I have a pretty fair idea that Police are taking this matter seriously. It is nothing to attend 3 or 4 jobs a shift in realtion to bike track incidents (mainly motor bikes and rock throwers). Please be aware that Police are getting around in sedans and access to many parts of the bike track is restricted. To say that the Police don't care is just ignorant. Have spent many a shift walking the bike track looking for scumbags. The warnings are accuarte though. These traps are allegedlly meant for the rouge motor cycle riders terrorising the track.
