wheel (Ksyrium SSC-SL) is at the LBS for James to do a full examination and service, he's got more time than I have this week. Get it back tomorrow afternoon. Was doing a little bike work last night, turned that bike upside down and drained 50cc of water out through the seatpost. Oops, BB drainhole was plugged with a mixture of grease n grit (there's a tip for home mechanics). Anyway, all good.

Out on a late night ride last night - it's actually starting to almost get pleasant here at the moment ....

ANyway, feeling rather OK last night, and cruising down Anzac, came upon this guy on a hybrid bike, past him, and the bugger stuck to my wheel like a limpet when I was cruising at about 34km/hr or so. In jeans and all.

Anyway, at the set of lights by Morphettville racecourse, set about seeing if I could dislodge him. After hiking along at 37 - 38km/hr, finally managed it, but it took a while - I was buggered. Anyway, it was a good "carrot" to push me along.

Ended up doing 46.5km overall in ggood ytime, so hopefully the really cold nights/mornings are buggering off......

I was riding to work along Port Road last Wednesday morning on my fixed, and I kept seeing this person on a bike just behind me. All I could see was their fluoro vest. I was pretty adamant that I was not going to be passed (or drafted) by a some hi-vis commuter, so I stepped up the pace… and the dude behind came closer... Then I heard the motor. He eventually passed me, but not before yelling out "45k's an hour, not bad!" when he was next to me. I tried to keep up with him at that speed, but then I got a stitch… Bloody motorised bikes.

Still, I was sitting on 45k's for awhile. I was pretty happy with that.

The same thing happened to me on the way home on Friday, but having a messenger bag with 6 beers in it slowed me down a bit, and goddamn Port Road is a crap road to maintain speed on. I did beat him from the lights though.

Yeah, it wasn't for very long.

I'm intrigued as to see what my average speed is riding to work, but I can't be bothered buying a computer. Best time is 10.4km's in 25 minutes. Not a single red light between home and work. Usual time is 30-35 minutes.

the weekend weather was awesome though!!! Saturday in particular. did a Norton, Lofty, Lobethal run and back to town via Gorge road. Cold in parts but when that sun hit you, it was so nice! Needless to say, not until i got home and stepped into the shower did i finally get some blood running through my feet again. Maybe next winter ill get some of those boot warmer thingers...

How is the magpie situation for this ride?Going to have a crack at that in reverse friday morning,is awesome when you get over the dam and the sun hits you.Hope the weather holds up for it.From my house return is an 80km loop,and last summer i had it down to three hours.Not too hopeful of getting close to that effort as bike time for the last three months has been minimal and beer/food intake has been high.Might roll a little quicker on the descents

Pulled out of the lobethal run,talked myself out of it, had a pretty handy ride though,went up the old freeway,mt lofty,greenhill rd,basket range rd,return via adelaide lobethal road and down montacute,cracking day for it,and not a magpie in sight!

After the recent slightly warmer weather, went for a jaunt on the SS bike (45/18) up Eagle on the Hill. Wore std bib knicks, no boot warmers, but long sleeve top.

Bugger me if it wasn't cold on the way down ..... And dark

Arrrgh, the rides are going to be beautiful from now on. This mornings ride was great, sun comming up and the chill factor way down. Made my loop (West Tce, West Beach, Glenelg and Hyde Park) in record time.

Well this morning was again a 5.30am start, off on the road bike, no rain, stars in the sky and I enter the danger zone!!! Belair National Park....

It was a little cloudy so I was not riding any quicker the 30-35kph and making good progress when heading down the straight section near where the parks sign shed used to be I was hit!
Next thing I am lying on the bitumen trying to get some air into my lungs and thinking what the faaarrrkkk just happened!! Of course I knew, as I saw the large grey bastard just as he ploughed into my front wheel, hence I am on the ground in second hand condition....I know everyone says they hit a big one, well this bugga's head was about the height of mine when I was on the bike...

Anyway, laying on the ground I finally start breathing then uttering whatever words you can think of, then I decide to wiggle some toes and fingers etc before trying to get up!
First I rolled onto all fours, very gingerly, looked at the bike(Merida 905) only 9months old Initially couldn't see much damage, but I sure felt like hammered crap...
Drink bottle was down the track, rear flashing red light is lost? I think the Roo stole it?

Anyway phoned the better half and asked her to meet me at the front gate, I hobbled down there looking at the bike hoping nothing major was damaged apart from some bar tape and tailight. Long story short the bike is at the shop for assessment and the Doc has assessed me as being badly bruised and said if the ribs are still giving me sharp pains to get them x-rayed! Skin off both knees, one elbow and my Sepcialised helmet is toast, cracked in three places, plus my good jacket has a ripped elbow section....

Warning to all, watch out in the parks, I know general motorised traffic we share the roads with are serously dangerous too, but the wildlife in the park can mess up your ride just as easily! Oh and for those worried about the Roo, he didn't stop to exchange details....

No good mate, hope you mend ok,have seen a few skips along montacute descent and tried hard not to think of the consequences of ploughing into one at speed.Would not be pretty.Speedy recovery and hope the damage bill is not too high.

Thanks for the words mate, and I seriously hope no other riders hit or get hit by a roo at any speed.
I awoke this morning a lot worse than I expected, so until some drugs kick in I will be laying around for a while .
The bike is of course my concern, as I did not really take a close look, I just handed it to Noel at the Blackwood Mega Bike and said call me when you know the damage.
Anyway, I think this must have been some kind of karma, as during tuesday's ride up windy point through Belair I was thinking about this forum and how many people have had accidents and I was wondering when I would have one! then bingo the next morning I am on the deck.......

I have to say I am steering clear of the ride in the dark. Sounds like a game of Russian Roulette to me.

Well it feels like Russian Roulette now, my right hip is the size of a small melon too, and thanks to my Specialized Propero helmet I am still here even though it's in the bin!

I have been doing this ride for over a year and I am always looking for them and once sighted I am on the brakes because they are so unpredicatable..
In this instance I did not see the Roo until it was ploughing through the front of my bike, but in saying that they are also on the roads up around Upper Sturt and Glenalta and Belair and I almost nailed one in Mitcham one morning.
Of course the likelyhood of finding them in the park is greater, but they are usually around the parks, but this Roo was in hurry to get somewhere and I was in the way!

During the day if you ride in the park you have to keep your eyes out as not only the Roos but the Emu are a real problem and they nearly always travel in pairs..if you see one look for the other and be very wary when the chicks are close by!
