bike pathsI think the bike path to Mc laren vale is excellent. I usually take this path as i like riding in that area. The other night i went to aldinga which was dangerous. Most of the road was in bad condition and cars fly down there. I think a bike path to aldinga would be just as popular as the Mc laren vale one, maybe they could just continue on from where the Mc laren vale path turns to go under south road. what do you guys think maybe we need a petition.
Re: bike paths
Find out who the councillor is for that area and suss them out first. Local member state level may be worth a try, but the council will likely be you most directly connected avenue to getting something up as it's their asset/land. as someone who enjoys paths that cross through about 6 or 7 council areas from TTG to Glenelg on my regular rides I would be happy to sign a petition for more paths any where in Adelaide metro area.
Re: bike pathsI haven't used this bike path myself, but I am building at Aldinga and am looking at riding myself to check out the building progress and I think it would be a fantastic idea and much safer. I would be happy to sign a petition if needed.
On the side does the bike path come all the way from Adelaide - Mclaren Vale and how far?
Re: bike pathsIm pretty sure it starts at reynella and ends at Mc laren vale, the southern expressway path also links up with it.
Re: bike paths
It's the "Coast to Vines Rail Trail", from Marino Rocks to Willunga, with good access for places in between. There's a nice overview map at http://www.railtrails.org.au/states/trails.php3?action=trail&trail=42. As you say, it links with the Patrick Jonker/Southern Expressway bike path. DTEI, for all of their faults, are now keeping the BikeDirect maps up to date on the web, which you can find at http://www.transport.sa.gov.au/personal_transport/bike_direct/maps.asp. Map 11 shows the intersections between the bikeways, handy info if you are approaching from the east and want to avoid a few Km. Neither of the maps gives enough overview to show that you can pretty much ride down the metro coast to the head of the Rail Trail, down the usual Seaview/Military Road, Glenelg, King George Av route to Seacliff. Then The Cove Road to Marino Rocks and picking up the Rail Trail there. The Semaphore-McLaren Vale and return trip is one of my preferred nighttime rides after I've got the kids in bed. Riding "The Cove Road" at night always makes me feel somewhat like a smuggler in the days of tall ships. As for a bike path to Aldinga, another choice would be a coastal route Aldinga, Maslins Beach, Moana, Seaford and pick up the Trail there. There's lots of road reserves along that route. That would also give you pretty direct bike-then-rail access out of Noarlunga. It might also appeal to a government which has a vision of a coastal cycleway.
Re: bike pathsI did the coast to vines trail yesterday and loved it - its brilliant bike path - I did the round trip

Re: bike paths
Actually that URL links to an old version of the maps.... Try this: http://www.sa.gov.au/subject/Transport% ... cling+maps The latest edition includes a new section of the Coast to Vines Trail in Sheidow Park, missing from the version above (plus some other things). The .pdfs are layers, so use the layer function on acrobat to turn off any layers you don't want.... Regards Gemm (the mapmaker!
Re: bike pathshi there
been wanting to do the ride to mclaren for a while now. but just need to get the route right. so do I go by the Coast to Vines Rail Trail or do I go by the Patrick Jonker Bikeway/Veloway? Its on in the mind. Never say die.

Re: bike paths
where u starting from? u can go any of the following ways to get onto the mclaren vale path and end up in the vales... 1) via the brighton/seacliff esplanade... - ride down the esplanade and make your way onto the bike path that follows the cove road at marino - ride to the hallett cove railway station.... the path then takes a detour over the railway line walk bridge and heads up through hallett cove. Follow the path thru sheidow park where it joins the veloway at reynella... head south and dont turn and u will end up in mclarenvale 2) join the southern expressway veloway at darlington... and if u veer left at the reynella interchange and head south u will end up as in point 1) 3) begin your ride at the beginning of the railway bike track at old reynella, close to panatalinga rd..... follow this south where it meets the veloway path at the southern end of the expressway... then continue on as per point 1)
Re: bike pathsthanks for the head up
just another quick question, how do i get onto the veloway if i'm coming down south via diagonal road? are there indications/road signs as to where the start of the veloway is? so basically for the ride, the initial part is on the veloway after which i turn left onto the "COAST TO VINES TRAIL" and continue on to mclaren vale, someone correct me if i'm wrong. better to get it wrong now then later when i'm out. cheers! Re: bike paths
diagonal then left at its end onto seacombe rd... about 30m down seacombe the is a veloway entrance to the left.... then loop back under seacombe road on the veloway and head south.... careful during the day just past majors road. at the moment there is an agressive magpie swooping riders on the decent... its about 100 south of the majors rd overpass.... its worse on way back up as your doing 20kmh instead of 50+ downhill.... at reynella the veloway heads thru a tunnel under the express way and meets "the vines" trail here.... veer left here and all the way to the end of the veloway.... at the end of the veloway it meets the rail to vines (i think thats the name?) path.... turn right (south) and follow this all the way to mclarenvale.....
Re: bike pathscheers mate.

Re: bike paths
Is he still hanging out there? Ive been avoiding it lately coz he was giving me the sh*ts. Just grab a stick off side of path before you reach that part and wave it above your head a bit, keeps him well at bay without resorting to cable ties
