Swooping season already? Is it just me or has the swooping bird season started a tad early this year? Rode up Montacute road yesterday and one particular bird was going apeshit! Anyone else been swooped yet?
Re: Swooping season already?Yes they started around mid-late august but not so agressive around the Marion/Glenelg area
+ there is already another post in the General Discussions
Re: Swooping season already? There's one on the Veloway, just past the TAFE as you head south.

Re: Swooping season already?Yes i got two nicks on the back of my helment going at around 28-32km/h down the veloway even though i didn't see or hear it so i kept riding
Re: Swooping season already?I was swooped just last week. He flew off when I stopped and stared at him tho.
Re: Swooping season already?Veloway maggie is bloody persistant. Had a crack at me while going almost 50kph!! Worst thing was knowing I had to ride back past it up the hill at 20 odd kph.
Also come across one going up Mt Osmond from the freeway
Re: Swooping season already?
He a savage sod. Very persistant. Often not happy with one go.
Re: Swooping season already?haha thats funny, the veloway Magpie was destroyed last season. It was at a very dangerous part of the path, heading south, you would be rolling at 40-50kph and it was very rough surface, he would be chasing you for 200m +. A guy at local bike shop said council got rid of it. Now his kids are back.
There is another nasty one on Hallet cove path, and thats dodgy too, heading down hill. Why arent they swooping when TDU on, make the race alot more interesting. Don't buy upgrades, ride up grades
Re: Swooping season already?I get swooped pretty much every ride nowadays.
Re: Swooping season already?
Yes he is very persistant and a bloody pest! Had a crack at me while I was going out, so on the way back I got off the bike and tried to stare him down. The little bugger stalked me from tree to tree til I thought I was through his territory. The second I got back on the bike he swooped me!!!! -------------------------------

Re: Swooping season already?
Next time on your way back up, stop and find a stick on side of path, and just wave it above your head when he starts coming at you. Worked for me last time and thankfully he/she stayed far enough away that no harm came to either of us. Although Im sure cars on the expressway thought I looked a right dear friend waving away at nothing!!
Re: Swooping season already? There is an Australia wide open to all to edit -magpie attack map going around.
I have hosted it on a special page on Adelaide Cyclists (URL REMOVED) . You can click on the link at the bottom of the map to go directly to the map and add your attack location. You do need a Google account. Click Edit, select blue marker, drag to location, click Done then Save. Don't forget to put the cable ties on your helmet. Cheers Angus Admin Say: Recommended is for new members to read the guidelines

Re: Swooping season already? The one in general discussions is 7 pages now, I think rubber snakes on the helmet could keep them away
