Where can I buy energy bars and gels in Adelaide?I've checked a few health stores but they don't have energy type products. Where do you guys buy food stuffs for riding? Is it a good Idea to buy from UK websites I noticed some sell bars and gels.
Re: Where can I buy energy bars and gels in Adelaide?you can get them from bike shops or supermarkets (woolies stocks power bar gels)
Re: Where can I buy energy bars and gels in Adelaide?Winners bars (stocked at woolies and coles) are good. sometimes I just buy a box of fruit bars as they're easy to open and good value. Not really into the gels..the ones i've tried are over priced and taste disgusting.
Re: Where can I buy energy bars and gels in Adelaide?Bicycle express stock energy bars/gels suited for riding purposes I would imagine, got a decent range too if I recall.
Re: Where can I buy energy bars and gels in Adelaide?I buy them when they are on special at the supermarket - coles and woolies.
Those winners are Ok - didn't do much for Cadel though Don't buy Power Bars Gels on special unless you feel the product first - they are usually get harder as they get older The trouble with jogging is that the ice falls out of your glass
Re: Where can I buy energy bars and gels in Adelaide? Thanks, bought some products from Coles, the winners bar stated ok, its just like a soft muesli bar, seemed to help on my 100km ride on the weekend, will also try the powergel bar and gel soon too.
Re: Where can I buy energy bars and gels in Adelaide? On a 100+ ride I usually just pack an apricot bar, a muesli bar and one of those cadbury breakfast bars (the ones with chocolate on the bottom, though not sure who would have chocolate for breakfast). That's ample energy for me. Heaps of sugar in those, lots cheaper too.
Re: Where can I buy energy bars and gels in Adelaide?I've been trying supermarket fruit cake - I kid you not.
It's much cheaper, more palatable and doesn't leave crude stuck to your teeth for the next 30 minutes. So far so good. Still throw a couple of gels into the bottles and straight down on 4 hour + rides as well. The trouble with jogging is that the ice falls out of your glass
Re: Where can I buy energy bars and gels in Adelaide?Date loafs near the bread section is also good. When I trained hard I would cut the loaf up and wrap up the pieces and put them in the freezer.
You guys can also buy energy bars on line. Get a box if you want and it will last you for a long time. Hey listen to me. I am coming down for the TDU and now I am posting here, like I belong.

Thank you but I am a sister
Re: Where can I buy energy bars and gels in Adelaide?you can eat the gels straight can't you?
Re: Where can I buy energy bars and gels in Adelaide?Yep - but they advise to drink water after you have eaten them.
Some people get upset stomachs - I've pretty much trained my stomach over the years to withstand all types of abuse I nearly bonked in the ATB a couple of years back and by exceeding the recommended usage of gels (I had about 5-6 in one go) the last 30km where a breeze The trouble with jogging is that the ice falls out of your glass
Re: Where can I buy energy bars and gels in Adelaide?
Yes but because they are full of sugar (I believe) they wreck your teeth, so my dentist said wash down with water. I don’t use them anymore. I only drink water on rides now. I became paranoid about it.
Re: Where can I buy energy bars and gels in Adelaide?
You think that's bad? Ask your dentist about Gatorade/Powerade or the like and watch their face turn white!!!!!!! Actually, my dentist is Malaysian but let's not get into that right now!! Stick to water and fruit cake or bars unless it's a big event.
Re: Where can I buy energy bars and gels in Adelaide? The debate seems to concentrate on replacing PROTEIN with SUGAR/CARBOHYDRATE substitutes. Surely they're not the same thing!!
Re: Where can I buy energy bars and gels in Adelaide?ill often have a gel in my pocket incase i start to feel terrible out in the middle of nowhere but ill only have one on me if its planned to be a bit of an epic ride. nothing worse than not being able to get any food when you really need food.
couldnt recommend a diet of gels though, your poos would be... interesting and probably all your teeth would fall out if i get killed while out on my bike i dont want a 'memorial ride' by random punters i have never met.
Re: Where can I buy energy bars and gels in Adelaide?Been using High 5 gels and Carb Drink, washed down with Rego Recovery drink afterwards for many years now! Still have my own teeth and no dental work!
Lots of sugar in them yes! If you're really worried about it, stop drinking any fizzy drinks - they are far worse! Carb bars, gels and drinks are personal to the rider, I don't work well with other manufacturers or even alternatives like jam sandwiches. But I know others that do! I have a high metabolism, that needs a boost every 2 hours or so, regardless of cycling or not. Friends hate it when we are out, as I need food regularly. My doctor and trainer say's it's fine, so for me I'll stick to the gels. etc. Cycled across West Africa
