TDU/ BNA cycling and training rides, organise your ride here

Postby amt » Thu Sep 17, 2009 4:06 pm

With an interest to get more of us into the saddle, who are participating in the TDU 2010, I have started this thread for those who would like to have get together as for training and indeed socialising. So if I may outline some basic rules for this thread because its to be used specifically as a scheduling or sound board for anyone who wants to either start a ride somewhere or join one that's been organised.

So its simple just post;

Date:
Time:
ride distance:
Meeting place:
Return place if applicable:

Mods, perhaps this could be placed as a sticky temporarily.

Be great to join in, but still a noobie and not upto 90km yet, and no doubt too slow. I'd probably have a coronary after 50km! Hopefully by next month once I get some more distance and speed into my little legs.

The thread is a great idea, and will bookmark for future.

Have a great ride - should be a fantastic day!

I'm with you Wino, I've only been over 50km once, but it is easier with other people with you.

Guys don't be detered, I thought the route would be up Gorge Road to Cudley Creek. The best way to push yourself is to be part of a group, even if some are fitter you still have to push yourself. Riding with a group gives you a lot more incentive. Anyway I think you should still come along. Hope to see you there.

Group riding is a good incentive, what food/types of drink would you typically take on a ride like this (if any besides water)?

Well it depends on what you have to do during the day. Weedays I work so I ride at 5:30am meet up with a few guys and ride 'til 7:00am, then its off to work. Weekends will vary but if you have a family then a 5hr ride in the middle of day is going to have an impact for my family, so I have to be flexible. On the weekend I ride at all times depending on circumstances. Riding early in the morning allows me to get in a full day of other duties. Lawns don't mow themselves you know!

Robbie, I always bring water up to know, but I'm going to be experimenting with energy drinks. I also bring muesli bars and banana's on rides of more than 40km's.

It's just like a refreshing start to the weekend, nothing like a good ride and home before 10 (only a short one lol) then the rest of the day is yours. It would be nice to be so organised so there was nothing else to do on the weekends, but work gets in the way.

This is a great idea, and if I didnt have to train a staff member on how to open the shop Id be joining in for sure. The route sounds good too since its the first part of the TDU ride, its nice to know what the main hills are like so you can work out what pace suits you best

:( I am in Sydney and am coming to the TDU; I am training at the moment. Doing about 150 - 200km very hilly rides per week. Will increase the distance to 160 on Sundays.
Can’t wait to ride the tour.

Hopefully Sunday I'll be doing a 60k loop from Woodside, up Fox Creek Rd  (stop for a coronary), then on to Littlehampton. Should be nice weather.

good luck getting through lobe, the grand prix thing is on, roads close at 1230 so if you dont make it through by then you wont get through, good luck though i have ridden from lobe up fox creek then back home to lobe a few times its pretty hard but a good ride.

given the choice, would you rather share the roads with a woman texting in her four-wheel-drive, a manic truckie, a boy in a grey-import turbo, or a cyclist?

Got through Grand Prix fine. But for some reason lost my cookies and all energy before I even hit Fox Creek rd. Had a good breakfast and all the usual preparation. Dont know what happened. Needless to say the ride up was long and painful. Did my worst average speed. I'll try again tomorrow, see if things improve. Thanks to all who passed me on the hill and their encouragement - appreciated.

Yeah, Woodside. Some of the back roads are great, low traffic, beautiful scenery. Some days its just great to be on the bike - today probably wasnt one of them.

Its lucky that the TDU stage will go through here, so Ive sort of been basing most of my rides through Woodside. And also trying to avoid the magpies! Just need to build up the km's, and would be nice to manage some good hills, hence Fox Creek practice.

hello.

this is a loop ride which I like to do to Lobethal. It runs parallel to Fox Creek and goes to Cudlee Creek but still a good ride nonetheless with good rolling hills

http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&sadd ... 74722&z=11

or if u like a bigger challenge with more rolling hills

http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&sadd ... 07274&z=12
Its on in the mind. Never say die.

Why drive when you can ride.

Shut up legs.

I use these two loops to make up 60km. Together they follow some of the TDU CC route, some good hills, some easy, a few nice cruisy sections where you can just go for it, and finishes off with a flatish ride back along Onkaparinga Rd into Woodside.
