Shop in Adelaide which takes kids' bikes seriously?

Shop in Adelaide which takes kids' bikes seriously?

Postby gdt » Sun Feb 07, 2010 11:20 pm

Hi folks,

Called into my favoured LBS, and as nice as their range of bikes for grown-ups is, their range of bikes for kids wasn't nice at all (heavy, shoddy parts).

Is there a shop in Adelaide which can provide a bike for a 8yo girl for riding to school down the footpath? Something with gears would be nice (perhaps a 3 gear internal), since there's often a bit of a headwind. Otherwise a BMX would have been fine. Don't need suspension, but all the kids' MTB seem to have that regardless of the additional weight and the lack of rough downhilling on the way to school.

Don't particularly care if its a boy's bike. That's nothing a doll's seat, handlebar streamers and some shiny stickers can't fix :-)

Most LBS's got out of the market because they couldn't compete with Target/BigW/KMart etc.

Try around the LBS's, Giant does a decent range (pricey - bought a hardtail MTB for my daughter), and Cell also has kids bikes but they are a bit heavy but IMHO good value for money (dual suspension MTB for the eldest boy). The Cell came with QR front axle, rims were same between bikes, shifters were the same, brakes better on the Giant but still crappy, but the Giant was slightly lighter. The Cell bike was definitely better value for money.
I ride, therefore I am.

Standish at Mile End (8443 5435 - just happen to have puncture kit next the PC!) hands down - have bought all my kids bikes there.

Most shops carry a reasonable range - but is about the set up for younger riders, which Standish seem to nail.

Have you tried Bicycle Express on Halifax St? Pretty sure I saw a bunch of smaller bikes when I was looking at racks and mudguards.
