27" 1 1/4 Where should I buy??

Hi all,

I am newbie in cycling and just bought 2nd hand retro road bike last few days. However the rear tyre seems already run out, so I would like to replace with the new one. The tyres size is 27" 1 1/4. So is there any recommendation bike shop that still sell this size??? I already try cumberland bike shop, but they give me less option

Unless you really need top quality rubber, can't beat K-Mart for value for money for 27 x 1 1/4 tyres

oh man.. it means that there is no "real" bike shop in adelaide still sell 27" 1 1/4. How bout super elliot in rundle?? but anyway thanks to all recommendation.

No some "real" bike shops still sell 27 x 1 1/4, but you will pay through the nose for the privilege, if they have them in stock . You will pay double or triple what you would at K-mart or Big W for the same basic quality tyres,

UK mail order will get the better quality 27 x 1 1/4 tyres as quickly ( ie in 7 days) as ordering from your LBS (local bike shop) at half the price.

I do have two bikes running 27 x 1 1/4 tyres.

Standish at Mile End have 27 x 1 1/4 Conti Gatorskins on the wall (as well as some others probably), but they will be cheaper on line.

Easiest might be to ring a few places and see what they have and are willing to accept for them, as they wouldn't be a high seller.

Who would have thought that a cycling forum would have multiple people recommending K-Mart for cycling equipment!!!

Anyway good to know as I am hoping to get my new 27" wheels for a hard rubbish bike conversion in the next few days and will need some tyres. I would have naively wandered off to a bike shop.

thanks lot man. by the way, how bout changing the wheel, is it possible?? cause when I asked the seller (AT) cumberland, he told it couldn't be changed. Is it because old road bike frame different with road bike nowadays? sorry guys so many question...

You should ak that question over in the Shed section or maybe even the fixed one. From memory, I think you can put 700c wheels on old frames, the wheels will just look a tiny bit small for the frame relative to the 27" ones

And you may need longer reach brakes calipers.

oh ok, sounds need extra time to modify. anyway I already ring super elliot in rundle and they have that size.

700C wheels are slightly smaller than 27", which, unless you have very close wheel clearances, means you may need long reach brake calipers.
