RIP

RIP

Postby sven » Sat Jul 31, 2010 8:22 pm

A father of one my daughter's friends died yesterday AM whilst riding at Norton Summit of natural causes.

A fit rider, in early 40s.

RIP

Sorry to hear about that.

What causes a fit non-old person to "die of natural causes"?

Underlying heart disease.

Unfortunately excellent physical fitness does not always preclude cardiovascular risk as seen recently when a Geelong sports doctor had a heart attack prior to a game at AAMI Stadium. The sports doctor, a triathlete and a qualified specialist physician, ignored chest pains in the days leading up to his heart attack.

Once you hit your 40's regardless of perceived good health, a check up with your gp is a very good idea if you participate in demanding physical exercise.

Spot on

Didn't want to go into too many prior to the funeral etc which was last week.

Was riding with a group of Surgeons and RAAF Nurses, so had the best chance of survival for an out hospital cardiac arrest.

Just want acknowledge the attempts of the rescuers, who are often forgotten in these tragic events.

Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts
