you might get more specific replies if you generally describe her current experience, and her immediate goals
well going up hills = bloody good
its the going down hills and in general learning how to corner better... i.e. some way of teaching her how to lean the bike more, and less use of the brakes
If I tell her I will get shouted at but she knows she is rubbish at the descent!!!
how bad; ie what hills are currently done, and what is the speed she is comfortable with on those hills. (to gauge how much of an issue it is)
is she braking before the corner or half way through it?
Is there any other problems with her bike riding technique?
has there been any fall/incidents which may have initiated the caution?
(I got a speed wobble at 82kph once and now FOR that sweep at the bottom of THAT hill I limit my speed to 75 kph, even though I have changed bikes!)
what brakes does she have and are the pads good quality? Is the rest of the bike well maintained?
do you ride with others that she has confidence in and is less likely to be so robust in her communication when they offer support.
or if you both want to get overwhelmed with words look here
ok I will try to answer them all!
hills = willunga both up and down with also the return road on the TDU course? Range road??? its a mega bomb down into maclaren vale... plus many many trips up and down to lofty summit up eagle on the hill from the city... ( this is her favorite solo ride 3 or 4 times a week )
All the descents are done with a lot of braking!! and max speed only about 55kph... but that is on the straights... corners are the problem.... maybe 30kph if we are lucky!
I would say she carries the brake all the way!
riding tech. is pretty good... very very stable in tracking a line, just %$#^house on turn in, mid, and exit!!
can ride at 100 cadence almost anywhere blindfold
brakes are ultegra with swissstop pads
bike is pretty good!! and don't ride with a group yet.....
simple solution, feed her up, get her overweight, make her work so hard going up the hills that she will get her own back by going fast downhills (plus gravity at work), this works for me.
is she riding around the corner or is she trying to straighten it out?
does she look at her speed on decents? (if so put some tape over the computer),
where is she looking; where she is going or down at her front wheel?
might be good to find some shallower undulating terrain and get her to follow you, with you riding at her pace to start then gradually increasing as she builds her confidence.
Sounds like my BIL, except the up hills quick bit.
Has she had a scare of some sort to make her that tentative ?
just lacks confidence for the main....
I have tried every trick in the book, and to be fair she is still new at this game, but thought it was time to get a professional coach to have a crack with her!
as she does want to bomb down hills... just cant!
so anyone have any names of good coaches?
some decending advice here from Velonews
