There's one halfway up Sturtbrae Crescent, which is the steep street the runs from the back of Flinders Uni and joins up with Shepherd's Hill road. I think he remembered me from last year, no warning swoop, straight in to hit the helmet.

Came across another old friend from last year on Sheoak Rd. That was up past the 20% degree part where the climb becomes easier.

Magpie season has started, hasn't it?

Got hit a few times by one this morning. Up northeast along Linear Park, heading towards the city. It was just past Pitman Park, before you get to Windsor Gardens Caravan Park.

Yes, that whole area of linear park is a known area, I've been hit there in previous years.

I was cycling up around there, from Felixstow up past Lochiel Park and up to Dernancourt etc on Sunday afternoon and didn't have an issue - might have been kept on the nest by the horizontal rain and 50kmh winds, but it was a good ride.

I've been commuting the same route daily for over five years and only been swooped three times, including both yesterday and today - I think I've had extraordinarily good luck when it comes to magpies. Near Brighton Train Station, some poor older fella was walking his bike with a stick in hand with two bleeding ears the other day (Wife saw him as she rode past, testing out her 'googly eyes' stuck on the back of her helmet, nil attack), and the Cove Road South heading towards the Roundabout down to Hallett Cove Beach. Little bugger got me there and drew blood aswell.

Lower Hermitage road Houghton, agro bugga had 5 cracks in 200 meters at me last week.

that same one near the train station hammered me 3 times on the weekend... fair play though, there is a sign on the side of the road that clearly states BEWARE - DANGEROUS MAGPIE or something... probably wasnt that wise ignoring it

Yes, noticed yesterday while driving past there that signage has appeared, the nest is right in the trees overhanging that stretch so he seems particularly aggressive

Old Belair Rd has a cheeky one. Right at the start of the descent.

I think he's young - I just roar at the sucker and he leaves me alone. Lucky really, there's not much else you can do at 50kmph+ on a 12% descent.

The magpies on Churchill Rd North and Yorke Tce (Salisbury) have left me alone since I replaced my red helmet with a silver one. Either that or someone removed them...

Do magpies come in brown? Got swooped by something brown. A myna, perhaps?

I rode 135 km to Wellington on Tuesday and got swooped 100m from the ferry

Anyone seen a magpie lately? All I've seen has been a Murray magpie swooping us just around the corner, but not any big buggers. Keen to know if the danger has passed

There's one still active between McLaren Vale and Willunga.
The fella going the other direction ran interference for me last Saturday.
I was on my own Sunday!!!

The feral one on Lane Cove Road (Hallett Cove) has thankfully calmed down.

Interestingly, despite 400+ Kms training a week, I haven't been swooped once yet this season... Is it a quiet year? Or am I just riding lucky routes this year?
