Where should I go to see last day of TDU

By chance I am in Adelaide for a couple of days.

For the last day, in the city, have you any advice of where I should go to firstly see some riding and secondly soak up some atmosphere?

anywhere along the strech of king william road is ideal.
you will be able to see them much closer (and slower) at the section where they make the U-turn.
the teams also set up their gear along the middle island so plenty of photo ops there if you have a good zoom.
be early, the choice spots gets filled up quickly by people who set up their chairs, etc
enjoy, sadly i'll miss stage 6. off to the barossa in the morning with SWMBO then drive back to melb later.

Last year there was a big screen "TV" thing at the top of the KOM and that wasnt too crowded

Well, I got to walk the course while the last stage was on, which is the closest I can be to actually riding atm.

I was pretty disappointed - without some understanding of race developments as the race is running, road racing is pretty boring. It needs and detailed on-course commentary. Even though making the effort to listen, the sound was distant.

I suggest that more speakers would have resulted in a far more satisfying spectacle. Lots more speakers close around the course edges to cover it for watchers while those needing a break or picnic away from the barriers could carry on in relative peace. Surely not expensive and certainly not rocket science.

Further, what good is a large screen at the KOM corner without any sound.

I had a well needed walk but it could have been so much better.

all true, of course, and it doesn't help that the race 'caller' is a horse race caller with little understanding of anything non-equine, but it was a gorgeous day, a swell crowd, a cycle race in the parklands, so I can't help feeling you're being a trifle, errr, cranky?

We watched it from the 18th floor of the Stamford with live Phil Liggett commentary...(had a good view of the course out of the window but wished I took my binoculars) the last stage was so close, seconds in it, and when Gossy and Bling messed up the second sprint, we got to see replays of the Rabobank riders looking behind them trying to see why Bling wasn't on their wheels....

I noticed ppl on old Wilunga hill were listening to a radio broadcast commentary! It was an AM station though so couldn't tune into it on the ipod

Yep i was listening to it on the way to work and was listening online all week

No, I don't regret going. As you say, the weather and grass. But while I can see that all year around, international tours are a little harder to come by.

I find watching criterions and track great. It should and easily could have been up to standard. I failed to hear enough of the broadcasting detail to even know what the on-track commentators were.

I'll track down the relevant site and comment to the organisers in the hope that next year...

it is terribly poor form that tourism SA have spent $5m plus over the last few years on a guy who comes here to promote awareness of himself, but they can't get the money or brains together to set up a decent PA at the city circuits, or on key spectator points eg stirling, willunga, etc.
