So anyone keen for a ride on Sunday morning at the TDU? Early start say 6am for a few hours, maybe around Adel hills or down to Glenelg for a coffee? We had one last year which was a great morning. So I am proposing we work out a route. Anyone keen? There are a few of us coming over from Tassie.

What would the distance/speed be ?

Thats also after the legends dinner-maybe 6am might not work on second thoughts !

Sunday morning ride sounds good to me.

Distance - liklely to be 30-40ks?
Speed - as slow as the last rider - any hills roll down and pick up the last rider (etiqette)

The time is only subject to getting a good spot for the last stage

I'm assuming most interstate visitors would be staying in and around the city so a CBD start would make sense.

Is that sunday 22nd?

Sunday the 22nd sounds like a good chance for it. There is another thread going as well with the same idea.

Do you want flat or hills?

Flat is easy, down to Glenelg then turn right, ride till your bored then turn back.

Hills, well there are a lot of options

If I may give my 2 cents worth I suggest you head for the hills. The beach is likely to be pandemonium and I would steer clear.

A good route would be up the freeway bike track, through Stirling and Aldgate to Aldgate Valley Rd, down there to Mylor, turn right to Echunga. At Echunga turn left to Hahndorf - coffee stop. Head to Balhannah and up Greenhill Rd back to the city.

You take in some of our nicest hills roads, see some towns and have that great decent down Greenhill into the city. Ride will take about 3 - 3 1/2 hrs from the CBD return.

last year there were very few riders on the road, we went city, glenelg, brighton, (some road up cement hill then down the veloway), Darlintgton, glenelg. We stopped at the Kmart on Anzac Highway for a coffee so the cafe riders were not even considered. Any where we ride there will be crowds but on a Sunday morning of the TDU it may be mayhem if we try to stop at popular spots for coffee. I am keen for flats or hills, but will be medium to slow due to recovery from some hospital time. A 3 hour ride would get everyone back in time to sort out travel families whatever before the final stage.

We would be keen for either hills or flat, we are riding the hills Thursday when we fly in and probablly do a few different routes throughout five days.

I dont mind if we just spin along and get a coffee somewhere or attack each other on the climbs .

Max 3 hr ride.....does that include coffeee? Shouldn't it then be 4hrs?

Can you give me an idea what speed you lot ride at ?

I'd suggest up Norton Summit and down Montecute as a possible route, or Norton to Mt Lofty and back via Greenhill as good routes that would take a couple of hours to complete and leave plenty of time for coffee/socialising.

Some really good suggestions on here.

I'm happy with any of them, happy to be an Indian.

Only thing I would add is perhaps those interested in actually doing the ride should elect a chief and leave it up to them to choose which route from all the good suggestions.

Do one of the usual Adelaide training rides.... Outer harbour... Flat, 50kms along the coast... End up back at glenelg at Europa for coffee and chat... Lots of bike parking, and good coffee n food...

I was the softie who didnt ride up cement hill!!! (blue/black Orbea) wont be this year either, did it last week and got a bit battered by the trucks and cars heading up, think i will leave that hill for a while.

The first 500m of cement hill is a bit dangerous IMHO, unless u have good climbing legs. It's not steep, but there's no shoulder, cars pass with a couple of feet, and there is quite alot of splattered cement on the bitumen from the cement trucks... Best to avoide and take in the scenic route and climbs along the cove road instead...

Either that or along Seacombe up Davenport and cut across to Cement Hill. You come out next to the golf course, then there is plenty of shoulder for 2 abreast.

Yep much safer....

Well I could put my hand up for Captain on the road but.....the route depends on the general consensus of what sort of riding we want.

count me in for sure. possibly me may need a fast and medium group if we do a flat ride, incase the club level speedsters want to ride like the pro's ))
