Port River Expressway

Postby Trev Campbell » Wed Apr 10, 2013 3:20 pm

I know there is a bike lane on the expressway but has anyone ridden it, I was thinking about riding around the area on Friday. But I'm it bit worried about the safey of the bike lane on a 100kmh stretch of road.

I've ridden it once on a Saturday morning and it was fine. I drive it a fair bit and the lane is pretty good but you do have to take care at the on/off ramps and follow the bike signs. Traffic won't be the biggest problem crap on the shoulder and bike lane will be, if you can survive the stench from the Wingfield tip you are a better man than me. Speed limit is 90 btw.

Like YCBS, I've ridden it once. A while ago.

Whilst there is plenty of room, there is plenty of fast moving traffic, and iirc, there was a fatality a few years ago at one of the onn ramps.

I'd go another way if you have a choice, or REALLY light up.

The cyclist was hit by a semi trailer who veered into the bike lane after the South Rd on ramp... on Ride to Work day :(

Yet another example of how a relatively new road ends up being constructed without even following our poor Austroads guidelines. Why do we put up with this crap?
