TDU BUPA Challenge - Access to South Eastern Freeway

Postby arope99 » Tue Jan 21, 2014 12:59 pm

Anyone here knows if the South Eastern Freeway will be accessible by cyclists before the official start of the BUPA Challenge (6.30 am)?

I am planning to start early (~ 5.30 am) to avoid the crowd, but not sure if I can use the Freeway or pretty much have to use the bike path.

Any info will be good. Thanks.

There is never access to ride on the freeway... Unless its an organised community event... Andre Greipel got pulled up riding down it a few years ago... Everywhere is pretty much accessible via the bike track and side roads however...

The TDU BUPA Challenge 2014 (which is an organised community event) will go through the South Eastern Freeway up to Crafers. I am just wondering if the South Eastern Freeway will be accessible to participants prior to official start time (6.30 am), to allow for those who would like to start early.

The event guide says there will be a car going just in advance of the group closing the road, and one following the group re-opening it. Cyclists will only be permitted between the two cars.

So I guess early starters have to use the bike path through eagle on the hill.
