Helped today by 85 year old Doug from Balhannah

Postby 8Track » Tue Sep 16, 2014 7:19 pm

Hi all,

I was taking the maiden voyage on my newly renovated bike today along the Amy Gillett bikeway. Unfortunately the new Tioga tube I had installed decided to split. My wife had the puncture kit and pump with her, but as she was in-front of me with headphones on, she kept on pedalling.

I started walking and a few minutes later, along came this wonderful old gent who stopped to help me out. His name was Doug, lives in Balhannah, and he told me he started racing in 1946 and repairs bikes for local people. He was very friendly and said even though he was 85 he still rides 40kms a day.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone knows him and might be able to tell me how to contact him? I'd love to drop a gift off to say thanks.

Please PM me if you can put me in touch.

Thanks,

Mark

Brilliant! I hope to be doing as well when I'm his age.

My cousin, before he passed away, was 73 and still actively raced D grade at his local club in Taree NSW.

Guys like this are an inspiration.
