Re: Magpie alertToo many ornithophobes! I don't even bother counting, but they don't bother me that much. A few swoops and they're done? Just trying to keep us undesireable types away from their children
Re: Magpie alertA few swoops? Some of these birds are possessed. I have had a few full belt hit me in the back of the head, and to one on uriarra road tries to land on your back so he can peck your ears and eyes off.

Re: Magpie alertThe Red Baron claimed jcjordan this morning, bleeding from the ear when he turned up at our meeting point.
Sent from my iThingy... I ride, therefore I am.

Re: Magpie alertnew one - 2 good goes today
Roundabout at wheeler crescent and fincham streets wanniassa (the roundabout just near the corner of St Anthony's school for anyone that knows it).
Re: Magpie alertHalf way up Mt Ainslie (road) got swooped about 20 times by one magpie who just wouldn't give up. Normally I just ignore them but by the 15th swoop I was starting to yell obscenities (which had zero effect). When you're struggling up Mt Ainsie at ~10km/h the last thing you need is an annoying bloody bird smashing into your helmet.
I'll be avoiding that climb for a while.
Re: Magpie alertI won't ride in Canbarra with all these Magpie Alerts and am pleased to report that within Jervis Bay (ACT) there isn't a swooping bird in sight. I'm lucky enough to work here every couple of weeks, or just escape on weekends for trainging Magpie Free.
I recoemmend you bring family and friends for a wonderful weekend in Huskisson for some smooth riding
Re: Magpie alertI'm down at Husskie every easter making a lot of noise in your parade. Does that count?
Re: Magpie alertone down the very bottom of Coulter Drive is the most aggressive one i've encountered across three states of riding. Chased me from halfway down the hill, across the intersection, to 80 or so metres into Coppins Crossing Road. A kind woman told me to hang on to her (stationary at the lights) car and it'd leave me alone...only seemed to make it angrier.
Is four swoops in the space of 5km between Anzac Parade and the airport a record?
Re: Magpie alert
Yep, that one is bad - made contact with my shoulders twice the other day. A mate of mine had 7 separate birds swoop him on a 20km ride. Quite a few of the swoopers I regularly go past have now stopped. I noticed one of them watching me yesterday but they were too busy feeding their screaming chicks to bother with me ![]()
Re: Magpie alertI am experiencing an increase in swoops in the past week, I have been riding Flemington, Wells Station, GDE all season with only some early swoops, now I get swooped every time...all with contact !!
When do these guys give up ? I am now looking for an alternative route, my first swoop was on the dirt track in Ainslie back in mid August !!
Re: Magpie alertWell, not a maggie but I had a wood duck fly into my side riding past the Carillion yesterday morning! Not sure whether it was a kamikaze attack or just bad timing as he flew across the path...
There are four phases of bicycle commuting; first there's fear, then rage, then self-righteousness and finally, fun.

Re: Magpie alertGot swooped 9 times by the one bird near Mitchell on the GDE on Saturday. I was impressed honestly.
There's a particularly nasty one near the force dog park too. Seems to have been a long season.
Re: Magpie alertIs it just me or is the magpie swooping season still in full swing?
Got chased twice, riding to the shops on the bike path in Forde heading to bonner. On the way back, went on the roads to avoid it, but probably ran into the dog park one. Is it safe to ride along Gungahlin drive now? Trying to get back to commuting, but the magpies flying into the side of my head really freaks me out.
Re: Magpie alertI have been safe for the last few weeks. I thought I heard one yesterday clicking above my head but saw mi sign.

Re: Magpie alert
Last swoop was about 2 weeks ago in a new spot for me. I've avoided it since so can't say certainly it is still going. Current Ride: Giant 2010 TCR Advanced 1
Re: Magpie alert
I rode along there twice on Saturday and didn't get swooped.
