It's not a competition, there won't be any helmet checks.
Yeah I know but knowing my luck they would check . I need a new one for summer anyway as mine is lacking in the cooling department especially on climbs.

I'll be on this Don't know how many peaks I will be doing - 42 small chainwheel is too big for hills as I found out doing the Cotter/Uriara loop on Mon. Daughter was on her TCR Advancved 1 but I still beat her. Will try to get a 39 before the ride. DarrylH

39!
I'll be running 34/25. I've done BM in 39/25, but the cadence was way too low.

Haw Haw. No. there will be no panniers. This year. Last year I did it on the Hybrid and had a pannier that I carried much of my mates gear in, bananas etc. etc.

Picked up an old set of Durace cranks with 39 inner at the bike garage sale this morning. Fits my old RX 100 OK. The Pug came with 53/42 and 13-21 so riders in 1990 must have been supermen. Now has 53/39 and 11-27 to make life easier. Did Stromlo this morning on the 42/27 and was on the limit for my legs. Twizzle - are you riding the Bennett? I bought a SuperSports new in the late seventies (dark blue) - in the early eighties I worked in a bike shop for a little while and the Bennett ended up with Shimano 600 and alloy everything. Might still be around Canberra.

The plan is to ride the Bennett. But if it rains, I'll probably skip the event, or take the hybrid and skip the hills. Fingers crossed for good weather at the moment.

You could try call or e-mail, but I'd suggest just take the receipt with you on the day as proof. You'll need to pickup a wrist band, maps, brevet card etc anyways....

Hmm perhaps they should think about renaming, from Five Peaks to something incorporating wind. I fear the hills won't be the biggest challenge of the day - looks like it will be a great day to be in a bunch!

+1 Twizzle
Ride all winter in Canberra and stay healthy - spend two days in Sydney and pick up some bug.

I'm good to go, but by the looks of the weather I'll need more than a can of HTFU to get me out there tomorrow. I will wait and see what is around in the morning.
Sleet and hail is not in my job description.

Good luck to those that take part. I for one will give it a miss. My main goal was to start doing some climbing and the prospect of doing the 5climbs got me into training mode and I successfully did the 5peaks last fortnight so I'm a happy camper already. The weather forecast just isn't enough to get me out of bed in the morning

I decided discretion was the better part of valour and bailed on the event.
The forecast did not look pleasant and it was starting to sprinkle as I headed out so I turned the car around and came home.
Fingers crossed the weather is more pleasant next weekend so I can give the route a go and maybe have a crack at all five peaks.

Cold. Wet. Snow flakes falling on Mt Ainslie. Awesome ride though.

That was awesome. Nothing like a bit of weather to toughen you up. It was relatively pleasant until I hit Stromlo. From the top of it for about half an hour, I thought I was going to die. It was freezing. My face was numb, my hands were frozen, but I pushed on and it got a bit better after a while. 120km all up.
Glad I did it, absolutely worth it.

Well done, went to wash the car (AT) Weston late morning and was glad I wasn't on the bike . Rotary Winter Cycle gone for another year I hate descending the 5peaks in dry weather so can't imagine what it would have been like today.

Not bad at all, considering the conditions. But must have been fun coming down those mountains in the wet!
