120km ~ 140km social ride

Any one aware of any weekend social ride that travels around the mark of 120km to 140km?

Pedal Power's Sunday wanderer bunch hovers around 80km and I am not aware of other bunches around that travels at around this distance.

Like to do a few runs before attempting the Canberra-Goulburn-Canberra one day ride.

Cheers,

If an average speed of around 27-30 kmh is in your ballpark and you don't mind a bit of climbing, hook up with the Bilby's Triathlon club ride out of the ANU (Every Saturday 7am, carpark next to Willows Oval).

They typically have a small group that goes long (90km). If you take a long detour to and from the ANU, you will be close to your target.

This week they are heading out past Condor Creek and back.

Thanks mate. Just had a look at Bilby's website. Their Saturday ride does sound like it will suit me quite well.

Their routes look interesting too.

Audax rides sound like what you're after - http://audax.org.au/public/index.php?op ... Itemid=219

Thanks Ross, Audax rides around Canberra are actually what I am aiming for.

I am aiming to do the 160km ride on Feb 20th (Dickson-Queanbeyan-Sutton-Shingle Hill Way- Gundararoo-Gunning-Gundaroo-Sutton-Dickson), and the 150km Gunning route on March 21st (Watson-Collector-Breadalbane-Gunning-Gundaroo-Sutton-Watson).

I often ride with the Bilbys. From Gungahlin, the long route is usually about 115km for me. I normally do the medium route which turns out to be about 90km for me.

They're a fairly good crew and give you the option of a long ride every week if that's what you're looking for. They like their coffee shop at the end too if you've into chit chat.

HI,
I'm actually a new audaxer - and will be doing (at this stage) the 200km on the 7th and then planning for a 300 in March. The Bilby rides as mentioned are great. I head out most weekends with a rag tag bunch mostly from the group I ride the Hartley with, but always up for a ride so why not post a date / route and see who can come along.

On the Audax note, over the last week I did the Sermaine Federal 2010 rides which Audax hosted in Bright and I can totally recommend them. They have rides for all abilities, and the hills (mountains!) in that area are fantastic. It was a truely exceptional week topped off with completing the ACE250 - another ride that I can say is very special. Leaving at 4am to climb Mt Hotham in the dark with a large bunch got the andrenlin going, and then as the sun came up over the mountains it really did take the breath away ( or that could have been the 30 km climb up Hotham ). I'm really pleased to say I finished the 250 in brevet time so I have my first completed Audax under the belt.

Good luck with the riding, and hope to see you on some Audax rides soon.

Russ

I am thinking to doing something like below

Dickson -> Lake George Lookout (via Old Federal Highway)
Lake George Lookout -> Eagle Hawkes service station (via Federal Highway)
Eagle Hawkes -> Lake George Lookout (via Federal Highway)
Lake George Lookout -> Dickson (via Old Federal Highway)

I just like to build up the distance doing some familiar roads; hence the looping.

It will probably be a healthy 140km ride on any Saturday/Sunday.

I'm planning to hit Lake George up from Tuggers once it cools down a bit as my Imperial century goal :). I worked out roughly 30km from Dickson to Lake George on the highway so 60km return, plus getting to and from Dickson should get me over the 160km mark :)

Hit me with up a PM whenever you are doing your ride to Lake George, Haks.

Just did a maiden 100km today. Traveled to Tugger first to meet up with the guys there and follow Tidbinbilla Road to Cotter and stromlo observatory.

Well done, Tidbinbilla-Cotter is another one of my to-do list. Done Stromlo-Cotter-Uriarra-Stromlo which was quite good although next time would do it in the opposite order.

Pedal Power is doing the Uriarra loop this Saturday, starting from Cooleman Court at 8AM.

Warming up with a gentle ride along Cotter Road towards Stromlo Forest Park, the circuit then comprises Uriarra Road through Uriarra Crossing, Brindabella Road, and Cotter Road back to Weston.

This is the way they are going I believe.
