Well, I raced the Men's Elite Crit Champs last night, it was a tough race and the pace was way too hot for me. I was dropped from the main bunch after 5 minutes, then lapped by the lead break at 15 minutes, then lapped again after 24 minutes, and I pulled the pin at 30 minutes. The weather was pretty nasty and I was in a bad position early on, I had no protection from the wind and just couldn't hang on to the bunch, there were a lot of people in the same boat as me though so I don't feel too bad, I'll try again next year

Lapped in fifteen minutes? Maths isn't my strong point... they must have been lapping around 10 - 12 seconds a lap quicker?

Yeah, I think they were at least 10 seconds a lap quicker, probably more. Once I was out of the bunch the cross head wind down the back straight was brutal, and the sideways rain wasn't very nice either. I was pretty slow once I was stuck out there and had no chance of catching back on, it became a race of attrition and half the field must have pulled out by the end of the race.

I'm still thinking about taking my bike to Ian, he comes highly recommended so I'm sure I'll get over there one of these days, it's just a matter of finding a large block of free time!

Hey Twiz, you still racing vets? Currently planning my Gunning assault, although I reckon the course will be too flat. I might plan to work as a domestique for one of our sprinters...

Could be OK. I tend to shy away from races you have to travel more than half an hour for, but I may need to reconsider that approach. It seems whenever there is a close race, I am otherwise engaged.

Too quick for the conditions, perhaps. Right hand turn into street on a downhill section and the wheels came out from under me. No big deal. Graze on my elbow and imminent bruising. Same with the hip. I forgot how much the hip stings. CX bike is fine, with cosmetic damage to the rear mech, pedal and bar tape. Was doing around 30kmh. Not sure if the Hutchinson Intensive tubeless were a contributing factor. The centre compound seems a bit slippy in the wet.

At least one more wet commute this week. Will be taking it a lot easier through the corners.

Bring on the Schwalbe tubeless. Hopefully they will be a bit better. Another wet commute today. Corners will be 30% slower. Hip, elbow and neck a bit tender today.

Must of been a day for crashes yesterday, had a low speed one myself, bent the derailleur hanger but a quick (!) trip to Ainslie had it sorted out.

I didn't. But I did have a number of cars pull out in front of me, or try and squeeze in front of me to make turns. I had a real sense of schadenfreude watching a trady lock the inside wheel and nearly lose it after he cut me off to take a turn. And he had a bloody trailer. What is it about rain that removes the ability of the locals to drive safely?

I felt I wasnt far from peak form, but havent had long road kms in a while. I really enjoyed it but really dug deep. Deeper than I thought I would. Lower back is settling down nicely, but I am absolutely hammered to the core. I want a race with bigger hills.

C Grade. 10kg too heavy and got my ass handed to me on cullen range both days.

I had a lot of ITT practice at Gunning. Nearly every time the bunch surged I'd get popped off the back. I must of TTd back onto the bunch at least 10 times today.

If you look at the time rather than my placing the result wasn't too bad. Finished a bit over 2 mins behind winner of B grade, just over a minute behind rider in front of me, managed to hold off C grade and rode a faster time than C grade winner by about 5 mins and even got slightly faster time than a couple of A graders. And got 4th in a sprint prime, might of got 3rd if I'd had clear road. Not too bad considering I spent probably half the race riding by myself in the wind.
