I was feeling pretty good about 96kms (AT) 38.6kmh in 2:29 until I read Paris-Roubaix 254km (AT) 44kmh in 5:44. Unbelievable. Other worldly.

I came from Sydney to ride Gunning C grade on the weekend. What a great event! It was very well-organised, friendly, hard racing.

It was a chastening learning experience for me too. I should be too old for boyish enthusiasm, but that was behind my over-excited start to the TT. I found out quickly that 4k can be a lot further than you think! Then after dropping off due to cramps in stage 1, I had over two minutes to make up on stage 2. I had a good day on Sunday and particularly enjoyed working with the small bunch to haul in the two magnificent breakaways.

Thanks to JC and everyone else involved for a very enjoyable two days.

riding off road for a lot of the time - watching those two QS boys hit the edge of a cobble/boulder and lose the front was painful, great skills on the second occasion to keep it upright, can't imagine the bruising for the other fella who hit the boulders hard with his hip and back. Spartacus having to be assisted to walk afterwards is testament to the effort put in.

Very true, Twiz. Our breakaway of 4 was working about as hard as I was able.

Assistance? Sounds like my last Mont campaign, Neil. Those pros are other worldly, though. Amazing.

9:08am All lanes of Adelaide Avenue have been reopened after a collision between a car and a cyclist near the Lodge this morning.
Emergency services were called to the collision, approximately 200 metres south of the Lodge in the southbound lanes, before 9am.
One person was treated at the scene for minor injuries and transported to the Canberra Hospital.
An ACT Policing spokeswoman said all lanes have now been reopened.

200m from the lodge? Must have been a terrorist attack.

Hope the cyclist is OK and that they weren't to blame.

I was wondering if it was the killing zone - err green stripe from Adelaide Ave left down onto Hopetoun Circuit in Deakin/Yarralumla...

either way - i hope the person is okay. I was going the other way this morning and didn't see anything. Maybe he was on his way to the hospital by then.

The ambo was there about 8:45 am. It was close to the crest of the hill (IIRC), certainly well away from the green stripes.

A Falcadore had lost its back windscreen and the driver was almost hysterical when talking to the cops. Someone with a bike rack was taking away a roadie with a dislocated right brifter but apparently intact wheels. From the attitude of everyone bar the driver it appeared that the rider wasn't too badly hurt, which is correct as it turns out, thank whoever.

I can't work out what happened - a sudden braking move and veer into the breakdown/cycle lane looked like the best bet. Another car was stopped nearby so someone else may have seen it.

The driver was clearly very upset; no simple "SMIDSY" from what I could see.

Rode a sutton gung loop this morning. How do I maintain this every winter. So hard. Cold this morning.

Great morning for Stomlo repeats. Bit foggy in spots but no windvto chill you on the decents

Chilly one this morning, lots of fog around Sutton made everything damp then it cleared up and everything froze. Brakes and derailleurs were frozen, which made shifting and braking interesting! I also managed to get a layer of frost on myself, ha ha!

Spotted a rider this morning that looked suspiciously like twiz this morning on Owen Dixon Dr.

At least the fog this morning was not as wet as Tuesday. Just as thick though.

Canberra winters are so much fun

And at least it went away today.

Today was not all that pleasant. It may not have been as foggy but it was wet and cold.

Stromlo was really slippery

No fog on my ride today, except a bit up the top of Mt Ainslie. I was dressed for -2 degrees but by the time I got to Mt Ainslie the temp was about 4 degrees and so I nearly drowned in my own sweat.

There was a Renault impaled on the guardrail near the bottom of the hill. No occupants in sight. Looked like it was a hard hit as both driver and passenger airbags had gone off.
