building wheel

Any place in Canberra that builds wheel?

I am sort of looking at building a wheel with dynamo hub to prepare for winter commuting needs.

Cheers,

Eric

Not sure if Ian Downing still does work but I recall him getting great wraps during his time (AT) Bike Culture.

Anyone got any suggestions as to what rim to use for dynamo hubs? entry-level hopefully under $100.

I have got absolutely no idea so any ideas welcome

Check out Velocity Eric, Australian maker with a broad range. I'm waiting delivery of a pair of Fusion 32h rims for me FG build.

Velocity Fushion cheapest I have looked at is around $92 + postage. I decided to get a cheaper Mavic rim instead.

Going for a heavier wheelset. 1350g in total I think is good for some winter training. lol.

I haven't had Ian Downing build any wheels for me, but he's certainly done some good work on fixing them. Not at Bike Culture - has his own set up at home in Ainslie (in case you didn't know).

Thanks Jean.

I have got hold of Ian and will get him to build the wheel once all the parts arrive.

He will probably want you to be there while he builds the wheel, and if that's the case be prepared for an 'experience'. He's suffers from OCD, but a lovely guy... I highly recommend him. But make sure you don't have any time commitments when you go there, you might be there for hours.

Yeah, definitely one of the cycling world's eccentrics, but he knows his way around a bike. The 'drop off and come back get the bike later' experience is not Ian's forte.
