Rotary Spring Cycle (5 peak challenge) - Sun 10th Oct 2010

Postby HAKS » Fri Jul 16, 2010 8:12 pm

It's on again  . Rotary Spring cycle ride (5 peak challenge) set for Sunday 10th Oct. All the details at Rotary Spring Cycle.

I'll be in Victoria for the Worlds the previous week and won't get back till the 9th, but plan to still give the 5 peaks a crack. Last year the whether turned on a winter day with rain and sleet from reports of those that braved it (i didn't  ). I recall it was in Sep so looks like they have pushed it into Oct in the hope of some better weather.

A longer Lake and Rural Challenge on cycle paths and bitumen roads. You can choose a suitable distance between:

Tour #2: Parliament House, 28 -46 km
Tour #3: Lake and Rural, 50-74 km
Tour #4: "Five Peaks", 77-100 km

To add to the challenge, you can include one or up to five hills.

Few weeks before Fitz's (31 Oct)... and yeah last year I recall it was snowing at the top of Mt Ainslie... ugh. Cold... and I really need to HTFU and get back on the bike, only 3 months to Fitz's eeek.

I am planning to go hard on this one. I would have only just gotten back from a trip to Germany, so I would have had 3 weeks out of the saddle. Not the ideal preparation, but I will still hit it hard. 5 peaks for me prepping for Fitz.

I'm pretty keen to have a crack it, my first event!

I think I'll have to settle for the Rural tour 3, although I have made it up black mountain once, it was a killer :D

I don't think anyone would stop you doing Stromlo if you wanted to

This will be a good warmup for Fitz. Now to start doing some Hills for training :)

yah no one will stop me i know, but i think on that day i can train hard enough and get up black and or ainslie....

henryjay - my normal riding buddy, user Robdog will probs be doing this too, but doing the longer distance, if u want someone to start with (most people ride away from me cause im slow), im more than willing to have company (and someone instead of rob to tell me to HTFU)

My brothers wedding is the week prior, so im hoping to be a lot fitter by then.... need to look awesome for the pics :)

Maybe a few forum rides in the next few months hitting some of the climbs are in order. I thought last year it would be pretty hard, but after conquering Ainslie & Black Mtn in one ride the rest suddenly don't seem too hard. The good thing about this ride is Ainslie & Black Mtn are knocked over within the first 20-25km or so

I was there last year, doing the 5 peaks. It was absolutely terrible!

I'll be there again this year, doing the 5. I'm also prepping for Fitz's Classic.

It's good fun guys. If you can do Mt Ainslie and Black Mtn, the rest are easy. Mt Pleasant is a joke, Stromlo is an easy gradient, just goes for a while and Red Hill is short and sharp.

Seriously, go and do 2 reps of Ainslie, then ride over to Black Mtn and do 2 reps. If you can do that, you can do the whole 100km ride. It's not a race, it really is a social ride (by most).

I'm up for some BNA reps.

Good to know. Last year had horrible conditions but it was still a lot of fun.

I was sick last year and there was no way I could do it. I was entered, but as I sat watching a vid with a gale blowing outside, I was experiencing a strange feeling of satisfaction interspersed with a periodic feeling of frustration.

Just getting over a crappy cold and this is a perfect incentive to get back in the saddle - I'm up for some BNA reps, just give me two weeks to get the legs used to riding again.

Bump!

Who's in? I think I'm doing tandems for the day, so I should be easily spottable and you should all pass me, so be sure to say hi :)

Meeeeeeee 8)

Props do the doing the Tandem thing 8). Got a mate from work joining in as well so should be a good day. Did some training on the weekend and I made it up all 5peaks . Got a pretty busy Sep coming up with work and travel so won't get too many Km in, but I think the legs need a bit of a break before a big Oct anyway.

Yeah, I am in for sure barring illness or injury. Like HAKS, I wont be on my bike for most of Sept, so hitting the pavement again in October will be a case of balancing increasing fitness with saving legs.I have 11 days to get some legs back before this one, and am likely to treat it as a training event. I also am doing 165kms Fitz and Syd to Gong. Must try to pace myself.

Just entered.

Now, who is doing 100kms? Do we all want to meet up at the start? I havent met any of you, except for robdog senior, so I guess this would be a good opp to put faces to names...

As for riding, I guess I should do a couple of hills sometime. I did Mt Majura the other day, and it seemed a doddle. Hope that bodes well. Otherwise, the legs are coming back.

I'm doing the 100. I'll be on a black and white giant, with a yellow helmet. Jersey unknown at this stage. depends on the weather. blue (long sleeve) or orange (short sleeve).

I will be on a black, white and red DBR with red nipples. Wearing a white met helmet, black knicks, white arm sun protectors, white shimano shoes, white Pearl Izumi gilet. Probably a Cycle City jersey. I might do a bit of google mapping and try to find a place where we could potentially meet up...

Hey guys, I reckon there might be a few people organising to meet up, but might as well risk it and put up a suggestion for a place to meet. How about any time from 7:30 for the 100km riders?
I reckon here is good.

Anyone got somewhere different to suggest?
