Well something had to be said after you left the door open like that
I dunno whether I'll be riding it or not, I may have an opportunity I can't refuse over the weekend. If it doesn't work out I'll be there

I won't be looking at anyone's nipples though

Yes, because the double entendre was entirely unintended... :P

Haha! You guys crack me up...

So back on topic now, is the meet point and time reasonable for the 100km starters?

Just take the bike the night before then you'll be ready for the downhill run when we all get up there sometime in the morning :P

Can someone give a me an idea of what Tour 4 is like? I won't be climbing any of the mountains, but would like to get my first 100km ride on the board. I'm particularly interested in what the pace is like, and how many people normally do #4.

If you dont do the mountains, ride 4 is only 77kms. Its the extra climbs that make up the extra kms. Maybe do a lap of the lake after you finish... ;) The ride is pretty flat, though. With the exception of a couple of short sharp climbs like coming out of Coppins Crossing.

Thanks for that, and that's an excellent suggestion about doing the lake afterwards. Very keen to notch the 100.

Warning!!!!!!

Anyone doing Mt Ainslie this weekend - GRUMPY MAGPIE ALERT!

As mentioned in the Todays Ride thread, there is a swoopy magpie just coming into the 10% gradient climb where speed will be slowest. The pie is persistent, too. Swooped me 5-6 times. Quite a distraction.

My thoughts: try to have someone about 50m ahead, and have someone about 30m behind. I reckon you may get away with just one swoop that way... 8)

 there are a few other maggies on the route as well. Could be a field day for them :P

1. Glenloch Interchange bike path just after the tunnels
2. Top of the Bindubi st bike path just before turning onto the road.
3. One on Darwinia Tce in Weston. Haven't been hit by it this year as I avoid it but was particular aggressive last year and heard reports its back.
4. The street heading from the Lake towards Red Hill, before going under Adelaide Ave.
5. Near the Hospice in West Basin about 1.5km before the finish

So, looks like I'm in (yay... I didn't need to do anything on Monday anyway  )
Anyone know what I get for my $30 other than morning tea? Works out very expensive that way... Obviously the money should go to a good cause and that's a worthy consideration, but do I get some form of insurance, participation award or even one of those dorky euro cycling caps?

I'm trying to work the same thing out. Spent a bit too much on my week outta town :? . From the website all I could gather was morning tea & BBQ afterwards. The entry form says you take full liability for cycling on open roads etc so no insurance. I think your $30 gets you a wrist band & card to stamp at each of the climbs :|

If anyone can confirm, I'll be the first in line to say 'big whoop'. Sounds like I'll be making some brownies tomorrow for morning tea on Sunday. Happy to bring extras along should I actually get around to it. Cost: The princely sum of nothing

Surely this is a gee up!?

It's oranised by the Rotary Club to support the Rotary Club, not for you to 'get you money's worth'!

By all means don't sign up, but don't piggy back off their work either.

If you do the ride under the guise of 'I'm just riding on the road and it happens to be the same route the Spring Cycle is taking' then you are a scum bag.

BR

EDIT: Ok, emotions toned down a bit. Other than supporting the Rotary Club, the main thing you get is safety in numbers. There are marshalls on the course, a few hundred people riding the same route. That's something you don't get on your usual Saturday morning ride. Also, the overweight 60 year bloke sitting at the top of each climb to stamp your card and give you a piece of fruit isn't there because he loves cycling, or because he thinks you are God's gift to man, he's there to show his support and thank you for supporting the Club. People have made sacrifices to make this event happen.

Fair call BR. I didn't realise they went to that effort on course.

Bike serviced and ready to roll :). Although found a part has snapped off my cleats .....they still work though so it won't keep me out.

These challenge rides are all about being able to say you achieved something, and supporting the organising organisation. I have no qualms about giving a bit of money for a challenge, an organised ride and a good feeling about supporting an organisation that help people.

As for tomoz, I will now be in full cycle city guise with a white gilet on. See you there.

PS: Weather forecasts say several heavy showers. Sounds fun...
