Thinking of visiting Canberra in Sep and maybe spend an afternoon cycling around Lake Burley Griffin with a friend.

Are road tyres suitable or is it better on knobblies?

I seem to recall when I did it many years ago that it was not all paved.

PS - happy to meet people for coffee etc. but I will be riding Kitty, not Tweety so please don't race with me - you know I can't control myself so will just bust myself trying to chase.

Road tyres will be fine.

Do it every work day on road tyres with zero problems.

The LBG cycle paths are all fully sealed.

There's a section below Anzac Parade for about 100m that is red gravel (like some driveways, so not coarse at all) which is okay for riding over (especially if you have wider tyres on 'kitty'), but there is a path you can take just above it if you really want to avoid

Any kind of tyre is fine. Watch out for tourists near the Capt Cook fountain who have no idea the big wide concrete path is also for cycle traffic.

If it's all paved (apart from a bit of red gravel) that's good. May even consider bringing Tweety in that case.

Haven't decided when I'm coming but planning to visit Floriade in the morning and do some cycling in the afternoon. Nothing fancy, and not keen on joining a bunch since I'll be with a friend on a hybrid so gotta match her pace.

Hopefully when my mrs bike hits the road we can bike around the LBG as well I have yet to venture out of belconnen lol

I didn't the first time

Ride parts of that on the way home from work on the zipp tubulars so I guess any tyre will be fine. If you are going to get a flat it wont matter what tyres you are running at the time your going to still get it.

Floriade started today - when are you coming up Christine?

Recently picked up a road bike and have started lurking on the forums. Nice to know that you'll be heading up to Canberra - floriade has started so around Lake Burley Griffin might be a slight problem (crowds around some of the areas).

Was down there over the weekend, there's some orange gravelly patches, but I rode over it on my road bike no problem. Ironically I got a flat the minute I got off the Lake and onto the road to go home. ;(

If its not too much trouble, I'd like to meet up with people when you're down here. As a newbie I'm sure I have lots to learn.

Welcome. With the weather warming up i think a Forum ride is in order soon. Just got to find a time that suits everyone but i'm sure something will happen soon ,

Sounds cool. Will an ignorant unfit nublet be a problem on these rides?

Will be kind of a drag if I lose the lot of you on the first hill and then have to find a hole to stick my head in.

Just booked the hotel. Coming down Sun for Floriade, probably cycle the Lake Burley Griffin loop on Sun afternoon.

Weather forecast looking good, fingers crossed.

Will probably bring Kitty down. I want a nice leisurely "oh let's look at the scenery!!!" ride, not a "huff and puff go fast as I can" ride.

May even attach a video camera on to Kitty.

Curoch, whereabouts are you from? I MIGHT drive down as well as the mrs wants to see the tulip farm in the morning. But I'll def bring the bikes out too.

my bike and my dslr will never ever ever mix..... crazy. if i take my camera, its my lil camera
