Newbie to Canberra looking for small group weekend rides

Got to Australia a couple of weeks ago and am looking for small group rides at the weekends. I'm aware of the training rides from various starting points but have had a few too many weeks off the bike and just need easy tapping/chatting rides to get to know the area and get a bit of fitness back. Appreciate any invitations. StephenDuffy@hotmail.co.uk or Steve.Duffy@i-med.com.au

Cheers, Steve

Pedal Power are a social riding group that have weekend rides for riders of all abilities - don't have to be a member, just turn up.

hey steve,

welcome to canberra... how far do u want to ride etc, there are a few of us here who ride sans club or pedal power (no disrespect to them tho, they are worth checking out). i know robdog usually rides a fair bit, and well, if u can get me off my lazy backside, i dont mind a ride either...

Welcome. If you are based in Weston you are nice and close to the Stromlo criterium track where you will find lots of riders, and lots of MTB territory, and a bike track all the way to Lake Burley Griffin and around it. I come from that area too and mostly commute to the city along Adelaide Avenue, it has a nice wide bike lane.

Thanks for the replies guys. I usually like to do a 100k or so on a Saturday and Sunday but I'm pretty unfit at the moment so need to go steady! Would love to join any of you on your weekend rides though irrespective of the distance - if I'm too slow for you I can always bimble back myself.
I'll try to get down to the Stromlo crit (as an onlooker for now) when I get a bit better settled - I had a ride round over the New Year period and it looks like a great open circuit.
Cheers for now, Steve
