You should be doing the extreme Grant. Your probably fitter than myself.

I heard that there has been a rockslide at Corin which may affect the 205 route. Has anyone any further info about that?

Nothing will stop that. Except for the Police bikes that patrolled the route. They pulled over a couple of idiot drivers during the course of the day, which was quite refreshing.

On glass, I will be running my tubeless setup this year. Last year I punctured about 2kms from Rendezvous and lost the lead group. Not this year. Unless I run over a whole broken bottle.

Just checked the roads website. They reckon at least several weeks. It will be lucky to have the road cleared by fitz.

Lead group wont be an issue for me. I was last years Lanterne Rouge.

All the glass should be swept of the road by the time I go through. :D

Less than 2 weeks to go now. Hope everyone's training as gone to schedule! Don't know whether I'm looking forward to the days worth of pain, will just have to wait and see!

I hope it's not as windy as it was in Brissie today. I did 74km with 1200m of ascent and I was knackered :?

so the CCC race up Corin has been cancelled due to work still going on from the land slip.

Hopefully this won't effect the epic and extreme routes.

In other news I can now ride again (was working that day) so will be entering. Although still only sticking with the 160 due to the punishing I got last year.

I just read that the road to Corin Forest and Corin Dam will be closed and so the 205km and 255km routes will be changed. The new routes are currently being finalised.

The 205 km is relatively easy to fix - take the ride out to Orroral, which is maybe 3 km shorter (but the 205 was really 208 anyway).

What options do they have for the 255 km version? And apart from doing extra laps of Apollo Rd, are all those options easier than Corin Forest/Corin Dam?

Going up Honeysuckle twice would be tough, not so much if one was done on the way out and the other on the way back. Maybe they will add a Stromlo.

I guess I'll find out soon; I just signed up for the Extreme today.

I'm hoping they are just planning alternates as back up. A few mates rode out toward the dam a couple of weeks back, they spoke to the rangers and the contractors fixing the rock slide and they were indicating the road would be clear in time for Fitz's.

My post above about the roads being closed and the routes changed was from the official source. Here it is below.

"Route Note: The road to Corin Forest and Corin Dam will be closed following a rockfall last month. The 205km and 255km will therefore have some amendments from last year's route, the closure does not affect any other distances. We are just finalising the new routes now, but rest assured, we aren't going to make them easy."

Thinking more about this, Stromlo on it's own would be too short a replacement for Corin so I reckon they will add Condor Creek to the Extreme ride. Possibly Stromlo as well (I haven't worked out the distance Corin vs Condor +/- Stromlo).

Latest is extending epic and extreme out past rendezvous. Extreme is looking like 240kms.

Website now says the 205 go out the way you come back, ie. Uriarra Crossing and Mt McDonald. Then at Corin Rd on the way back, go halfway up to where the road is closed, obviously not all the way to the Corin Forest turnaround. Ride is otherwise the same. 208 km.

The 255 riders are as above, but they go down Brindabella Rd to Condor Creek and back, then down Mt McDonald, and on the way back at Corin Rd go to halfway where the road is closed. Ride is otherwise the same, including Orroral and Discovery Drive - 253 km, which I am told is about 6 km shorter than the traditional route.

This means that unlike previous years the 205 and 255 km riders will separate after 19 km, so the bunches will likely be thinner on the way out after that point. Also, I don't know what is down at Condor Creek, but on paper, both rides look significantly easier. That top half of Corin Forest, and then down to Corin Dam (not that I've done the 255), is probably the toughest part of the ride, given how far you have gone when you get that that part on the traditional route. I don't think the hill up from Uriarra Crossing compares.
