I saw one on Old Federal Hwy last time I raced out there. I nearly ran over it because I thought it was just a bit of bark at first then it started moving! :o

Last year around this time I saw a snake on the bike path around Lake Gininderra.

If so that's on my commute I'll have to keep an eye out.

It is good to see snakes.

I was bitten by an Eastern Brown in the end of October 2012. I was on the Queanbeyan River Firetrail, in the Taliesin Hills above the Eastern foreshore of Googong Dam. I couldn't avoid the snake. The doctors that poked me and bled me at Woden said that I should have died, because it took a few hours to get me to Canberra Hospital. After being bitten, on average 23-28 minutes is all that one can expected to live ... without proper medical help.

It took several months before I could walk without repeatedly damaging muscles and to tolerate the pain from joint damage. The effect on the joints on the side that was bitten, from from ankle to my arm and shoulder has been an endurance, that I wish on no one.

I can post photos including how the wound looks today. It's still disappointing, 14 months after being bitten, if any one is particularly interested?

Good luck with snakes. This certainly hasn't stopped me from enjoying off road riding.

On a more pleasant note. I went up Old Joe recently, to the Northern Border markers where a beady eyed Blue Tongue Shingleback tried to stare-down one of my bars ends.

They're certainly out there - spotted a ~2ft Eastern Brown on last Sunday's bunch ride. Pays to leave them very much to their own devices!

cheers

Ran over a blotched blue tongue skink today, along the 'Lower Monlonglo Corridor', pretty much at full tilt. Surprised to see it crawled away unhurt.
