From Mitchell to City

Postby henders » Thu Dec 26, 2013 9:18 am

Hi all,

Wondering if there's any off the road bike path from Mitchell to city (bar footpaths)? I don't want to ride in Northbourne avenue or on-road bike paths and can't see any other bike paths that goes to city and back to Mitchell.

Many thanks.

There is a separated shared path alongside Gungahlin drive (not on the road) that links up with a path along Ellenborough Street which you can follow to the set of lights on Mouat St where you can cross and follow the path all the way to the city, I've tried to put the route on to Google maps - here

Is this map same as this one?

1. Follow the off road bike path down Gungahlin Drive from the town centre
2. Follow the path down the Barton highway in to Lyneham.
3. Ride on the footpath down Ellenborough Street until you get to the inner north bike path
4. Follow the bike path down through Turner, O’connor etc. towards the ANU
5. The bike path will spit you out at Barry Drive at the city, proceed to wherever you’re going from there.

I've followed the above and it took a lot longer - around 40 minutes + another 15 minutes from Barry Drive footpath to city centre.

That sounds correct, depending on your fitness though the times will vary. I'm not super fast but get a decent speed and it took me about 20 minutes from Mitchell to the City. Strava file is below for you to see which way I went.
