Gravel climbs for road cycling

Postby usernameforme » Wed Mar 16, 2016 5:30 pm

Hey all,

Been watching the classics and feel inspired to tackle a gravel climb. I've only got a road bike so would prefer fairly tight packed gravel, and a descent along the road if possible. Does anyone know of any climbs that are (preferably) less than 12km out from Civic that would suit this description?

There are some trails around the base of Mt Ainslie that you could try.
There are many MTB trails accessible from Stromlo Forest Park that may be suitable
A bit further than 12km but out past Cotter and Condor Creek (Brindabella Rd) the bitumen turns into dirt. There are also off-road trails off both sides of Brindabella Rd before you get to Condor Crk.

Maybe the arboretum? You could climb on the firetrails and descend on the road

Forgot about the Arbo! There is a path leading off from the right of Bindubi St bike path that is dirt track that goes up to the Arboretum. As you come down the hill on the path from Jamison/Macquarie/Cook/Aranda heading towards the City, before you go through the tunnel.
