Vigilante justice on the wild cycle paths of Kambah

ACT Policing has arrested a 43-year-old man and two juveniles following two aggravated robberies yesterday (Thursday, 17 March 2016).

About 6.20pm yesterday, a male cyclist was approached by two juveniles and a man near Jenke Circuit, Kambah. The cyclist was assaulted and his mobile phone was stolen.

About 6.30pm yesterday, another male cyclist riding on the underpass footpath on Athlon Drive, Greenway was approached by two juveniles and a man. The man was forced from his bicycle, assaulted and his wallet stolen.

The three alleged offenders were then restrained by the first victim and other passing cyclists. On police arrival, the three offenders were arrested.

A 43-year-old man has been charged with four offences including two counts of aggravated robbery in company and will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court this morning (Friday, 18 March 2016).

One of the juveniles was charged with four offences including two counts of aggravated robbery in company and will face the ACT Children’s Court this morning.

Investigations are continuing, with the second juvenile to be charged at a later date.

Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have any information that could assist police to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via act.crimestoppers.com.au. When providing information please quote reference number 5804305. Information can be provided anonymously.

Police remind people they should not report crime information via Facebook and Twitter pages.

I hope they fell down accidentally a few times during the scuffle.

Hey all,

I was there one of the cyclists that held them till the police arrived.

Just wanted to say it was very encouraging to see how many cyclists stopped and all pitched in to keep the people contained.

Very unsettling seeing it was still day light - what's the world coming to?
