shipping a bike from Peth to Melbourne

Postby 4711shaun » Mon Jan 19, 2009 2:42 pm

does anyone know the best way to go about this ?
i've been told $45-$50 by one dealer and $100-$130 by another..

they would send it the regular way in the box mostly assembled without the front wheel, handlebars, seat post or pedals attached..

WA is the only way i can source an 08 model to beat the current hideous price hikes..

i'll post this in the Melbourne forum as well
any experiences ?

This has come up before and a couple of suggestions have been Greyhound buses (depot to depot) I think and the other option is SmartSend (?).

Haven't used either but.

$50 is a pretty good price - I'd take that offer if I were you.

you're right, and i forgot to mention this dealer can't send the actual bike i'm after, otherwise i would just go with it.. i'll call him to see how he does it them try and persuade the other dealer to do the same...

i'll also check out the two mentioned in the first response..

thanks for the reply's

Greyhound freight is excellent.
The bike must be in a bike box.
I think the current price is $100, but check this out here:

I've sent two bikes to Qld from Vic for about $40 each via Smartsend. Pack as compact as possible for the best rate.

On the same topic, what is the going rate for a bike store to box it?

I paid about $20 I think - got some other goodies while I was waiting so kinds overshadowed the price of the boxing

Why pack it anyway? Ride it :D

I did this the other way around and found it pretty easy. It cost me around 100 bucks and the unit was packed up really well and sent very quickly.

I organised it through The freedom Machine in Melbourne so wont be any help but at least the price may help
