Starting Group Rides

Postby bouncer1979 » Sun Feb 08, 2009 8:30 pm

Hi,

I am pretty new to the cycling thing. Just got into it recently after my employer sent me on a pushbike course. Now I have a new hobby to drain the wallet and give the missus reason to winge.

Anyway what is a reasonable level of ability you should have before you start rocking up at group rides? I don't want to rock up and be the reason people are having a cry :( .

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Ben

Hi Ben,

Many shop groups cater for lots of differing abilities and experience. They'll often have 2 or maybe more groups ride out. Try contacting your local bike store and checking with them. Note too that if you ride in a group you'll be capable of a slightly quicker average speed than riding solo. My advice would be start with a slower group and learn to group ride, then move up to faster groups as your ability and experience grows.
