Where in Perth can I get a custom bike box suitable for airlines?
I ride a unicycle and would like to take it interstate or OS when the occassion arises. Obviously I am not going to get one off-the-shelf so a one off custom job it would have to be.
I envisage something out of durable stiff plastic or fibreglass, being two clamshells that stack inside each other when empty so I don't lose too much bag space in the hire car when I get to wherever I am going. It would also hold the uni, with the pedals, seat post and seat removed and reassembly tools. Also those toys of mine that seem to confuse airport security - juggling clubs, diabolos, devil sticks, stock whips, contact balls, etc. And I don't want to have to sell my family into bondage to pay for it.
Any suggestions?

Hmm, a possibility is a musical instrument case maker. They generally make cases out of fibreglass with shaped inserts to match whatever you want (felt lined usually too) They may be too pricey, but you won't know unless you ask

http://www.fullers.com.au/
or similar
or just get a cardboard bike box and use that, cut it to your chosen custom size.
Taken my bikes to adelaide and had no problem with them, cheap too

The bicycle is a curious vehicle. Its passenger is its engine.

I bought some cases from Fullers, they are OK but delivery took about a month and they are very slow on the phone responce.
There are also 3 case manufactures that I know of in Perth but they are quite expensive as a few years ago for a brief case sized ali case it cost over $200 , good quality though and very tough
Depending where you are 2 are based in Welshpool and 1 is based in Bassendean.
Give me a yell if you need the addresses

The other option is to rent it from a LBS. Obviously not all but some has.
Bianchi, Ridley, Tern, Montague and All things Apple

Would one of those "normal" hard suitcases work? I would have thought a uni could be made small enough to fit inside one when disassembled. They are expensive, but so is a custom-made one.

Even the largest suitcases around will not accommodate a 24" uni. Cases max out at around 700m and the uni needs an extra 100mm on top of that, plus a fair bit of depth. and, even with the seat off, some extra length - they are not as small as they seem. And hiring a standard one for a uni gives the opposite problem - a massive case for bugger all content, though it would do the job I suppose.
Yes paul, if you can post the details it would be good.
And good thinkin wintal - I would not have thought of a music supplier. I know a couple of music places so I might have a word with them.
