I've done it before when he was smaller. I flew him there and back, but had problems.
He is too large for the biggest aircraft dog cage. Planes to Tassie don't have a cargo door big enough. They will only take a 3/4 cage, which is what we stuffed him into before. They will only take 65 kgs total weight of dog and cage. Our dog is closer to 80 kgs and 78s cm to the shoulder. The large cage is 80 cms. Sitting down, he's 90 cms.
So the plane option is out. He is too big for the ferry's dog kennels. We can take a custom cage on, but we need vet certification that a custom cage is suitable for a 15 hour (it's only 10) sea journey. The vet won't certify it when he can't see the wooden crate.
The crate needs to be constructed in Melbourne, shipped to Perth, then we have to take it back to Melbourne to go on the ferry.
Plan B calls for a dog trailer that goes with the horse floats on the ferry.
