Looking at Spinnakers Cafe at Hillarys Boat Harbour unless someone has a better idea. Maybe let me know your suburb and I can find a place to suit most folks.

I'm in Joondalup.

Son's soccer game on Sunday 29th kicks off at 8.30am at Kingsley so that's me ruled out for Sunday.

Sat 28th is good!

Cheers,

Gary

I'm out for both days.

My departure date is no longer imminent. When you own a dog the size of a small horse, it's impossible to get him in a plane or on a ferry, so my departure is delayed until the end of the year.

I should have saved enough by then to buy a Jumbo jet. :D

I forgot, I'm in Wembley, so I think Hillarys is a short distance to the north as long as I can forge a way up the freeway path.

The police don't like me riding on the freeway anymore.

I don't see why he can't fly Kev...I know people who transport Danes and there are crates to fit them. One friend has a Dane who is 37" to the shoulder and is about an inch too tall for a crate so can't fly, but he is rare (considering the tallest dog record is 40" I think). That has to be heaps taller than a rotti, though not as wide I'm guessing.

I have a Dane club meeting tomorrow so will see what I can find out from those who have done it and let you know.

I've done it before when he was smaller. I flew him there and back, but had problems.

He is too large for the biggest aircraft dog cage. Planes to Tassie don't have a cargo door big enough. They will only take a 3/4 cage, which is what we stuffed him into before. They will only take 65 kgs total weight of dog and cage. Our dog is closer to 80 kgs and 78s cm to the shoulder. The large cage is 80 cms. Sitting down, he's 90 cms.

So the plane option is out. He is too big for the ferry's dog kennels. We can take a custom cage on, but we need vet certification that a custom cage is suitable for a 15 hour (it's only 10) sea journey. The vet won't certify it when he can't see the wooden crate.

The crate needs to be constructed in Melbourne, shipped to Perth, then we have to take it back to Melbourne to go on the ferry.

Plan B calls for a dog trailer that goes with the horse floats on the ferry.

Hmmm...forgot it was Tassie. My contact has done Sydney and they can pick a 747 when required so size isn't too bad. The biggest issue is wanting to do it as unaccompanied baggage - there are more restrictions around that. The 3/4 crate is a bad one indeed. I would expect it would be less stressful to fly a dog than to ferry him?! Perhaps you can do what Scooby Doo did in the movie - get a human seat, wear a hat and dress, and put a bit of lippy on :D

Well I'm moving, but not to Tassie. In order to have coffee at Hillary's I need to be further north than Wembley, so I'm shifting to some suburb I've never heard of, just north of Gnangara rd next to Wanneroo.

I should be able to ride straight up Ocean something road past Edgewater and get to the coast, which should be safer than riding along Grantham Freeway (st).

Watch out for a mad tourist in the northern suburbs :D
