GraemeL wrote:Is there any clubs that cater for us older (early 50's) folks that don't have a road bike? the wife and I have recently taken up riding again after a 30 year spell :).
We purchased a couple of Trek Mountain Bikes and have been riding for around 2 mths. and have done approx 900k's. But I just can't seem to find a club that caters for those of us that have mountain bikes, the minute you mention mountain bikes with knobbly's they don't want to know. We are too young for the over 55's and CFP didn't really want to know.

We average 20kph and ride to enjoy it, if we want to go any faster we take the car :D

Any info would be appreciated

Graeme
Hi

Over 55's maybe? (Check that age, they maybe okay with younger riders). There is also the Cycling 4 Pleasure group. Both are mentioned in the opening post.

Andrew

As I said in my post, over 55's we are too young, I sent them an email asking it they allowed people that are not quite 55 but received no reply, so I assumed they get asked that all the time and couldn't be bothered replying.
Cycling for pleasure, when I spoke to someone about joining it was made pretty clear that MTB were not go, flat bar road bikes were the norm.

It's amazing that this is the case, while there are a lot of riders who have road bikes, there are just as many who have MTB young and old.
I am thinking of putting thinner tires on the bikes but I don't want to have to buy new bikes just to be accepted into a club.

Fit road 26" road slicks and just turn up and join in I reckon - the worst that can happen is that you get dropped on a hill.
For People North of the freeway, Joondalup - Jindalee ...Peloton Charity Shield http://pelotoncharityshield.blogspot.com/
Its for people who want to ride with friendly people and be part of a group, sorry no racers here.
Its not a registered club as yet. Recently started to attend the cyclosportif events.
On the Peleton ride there is a bloke named Brad riding a Mtb with skinny slicks....if you were to turn up he would have an equal companion. Brad hoots along on his machine so be prepared !.

Eric.

Not an official club but we ride from the Arena Joondalup every Saturday morning at 6am - from the main entrance and finish up at a local coffee shop. A, B & C grade rides varying from 50km to 70km. C grade averages about 31kph and is more forgiving for new riders (ie: you don't get left behind). All rides are associated with Joondalup City Cycles.

Westcycle is the new government appointed umbrella body for cycling in Western Australia. Its fairly new, and has only just appointed a CEO. The website will be up and running during Bikeweek (we hope). Send me a message if you want to be put in touch with Clinton. I'm the Chairman of the board. Nice list!

This ride still on? Might come down if so.

Just thought I'd share some info about Armadale Cyling group who I've been riding with for over two years. We do group rides every Saturday morning with 3 different groups leaving at different times and catering for different abilities. We alternate each week between flat (35-70km) and hills.

All levels and abilities are welcome.

Hi everybody and thanks for your contiuing contributions. I can't edit the original post as it is too old but feel free to keep posting updates. I know new riders look at the posts, so recent information is valuable.

Perth Retro Riverloop
Regular longer rides for vintage bikes has been an ongoing conversation in Perth retro cycling circles for a few years. A couple of us finally got our act together and kicked off something informal with a Faceache page.

Where: East St Jetty, Freo
When: 7am 1st Sunday of the month
What: No rules but ride something old enough to knobble your normal wattage. Kudos given for period kit over personal bests.
Not everyone wants to do the whole loop; join at these regroup spots;
Raffles at 7:40
Mill Point Reserve (Narrows Bridge) at 8:00
Bay View Lookout (north end of Owston St, Mosman Park) 8:40

They are a very inclusive club and their Saturday rides from Coode St literally cater for all abilities and experience.

Sounds like you would be a good fit for Main 4 or possibly Main 3. The Main groups all ride the same route, so you could try Main 3 and if the pace is too much, just drop back and wait a few minutes for Main 4.
