Last Friday, left the office around 5:30pm. There was something wrong, the parking attendant came up to me (and it was not just to say hello), and my bike was 'rearranged'.
Some low-life had gone through my bike and taken my gloves and my front light had been re-arranged (potentially they had tried to take it off, not successfully).
Took off, minus gloves, and travelled North for around 15 minutes when my front lights started to fade. They must had turned them on when trying to remove them, causing a flat battery. Went to get my spare light out of my pannier bag, to discover this had also been taken. Reluctantly, and as I was late to my daughter's concert now, travelled on slowly with a rapidly fading front light.
Arrived at the concert, and got changed into non-cycling clothes (she is particular about me not wearing lycra at school events for some reason), and couldn't locate my casual jacket. This had also gone.
Later found that my first aid kit, puncture repair kit and tyre levers were also missing. These were returned on Monday, they were found in someone else's helmet, who handed them over. Shame the other items were gone.
So how low will a low-life go, to leave me with no lights in the middle of winter? In some ways I am lucky that the bike was there, and a lot more could have been done to it (if they had wanted to).
The good news is the rego number of their car was noted by a passer-by, and has now been passed onto the police.

These are the same low lifes that throw rocks at passing vehicles. This is the type of society you get when the justice system and discipline gets hamstrung and hijacked by do gooders and bleeding hearts.

My son's primary school decided to rearrange the bike rack's last week, while his bike was chained onto it. Only minor paint loss and a few things bent, but I thought it was not very nice.
Partly our fault for locking the bike to the rack with our own lock instead of relying on the school's cable.
A bit sad that the entire primary school gets by with one bike rack these days, usually only four or five bikes.

That's really not that 'low' unfortunately. I'd say pretty standard for a low-life. Really low would be puncturing your tires and slashing your seat just because it's 'fun'. I'm fortunate that I've never had this type of thing happen to me, but then living provincially is probably a little safer.rolandp wrote:So how low will a low-life go, to leave me with no lights in the middle of winter? I'm a runner, but I sure love to ride!

Coulda been a lot lower.
Witnessed and reported, lovely. Call me cynical, but getting anything positive aint likely to happen unless missing items are found in their possession.
Bring back the stocks. I'll supply the rotten vegies.

...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

sounds like it is lucky you weren't in victoria or apparently as of today, if caught riding without sufficient lighting you could have gone to jail for 7 days.rolandp wrote:Took off, minus gloves, and travelled North for around 15 minutes when my front lights started to fade. story
Edit sorry I may be wrong according to this story-
Other new penalties include a maximum fine of $13,610 and/or 12 months in jail for dangerous riding,
you could have gone to jail for 12 months
(I'm such a drama queen)
I forgot to offer my condolences for your stuff. It is a sad reflection on society.
