Enough bikes, but too be honest, the ones I looked at weren't that great.

Did find this gem though:

Unless this is a rare 50c, why would they put this up for auction?

It would be a bargain if you could pick it up for 20c. Not so much if it went to 70c though ***

*** assuming it isn't rare.

The 50c piece is obviously just a prop so that you gauge the size of the actual product being auctioned. Stealth bike helmet? (I've seen a few people riding with these). State govt's support for cycling infrastructure? (or obviously something else that you can't normally see). The bit that is missing from my bike that stops all those creaking noises? (or maybe whatever's written on the other side of that piece of paper also in the bag).

Gah! There's another auction on this morning, 10am.
http://www.auctions.com.au/auctions/201 ... ry/24/25/1

No pictures of bikes, you'll have to look at the .pdf catalogue. Lots of Dunlop, Malvern Star, other BSO- style brands but there is a few interesting MTB and road bikes mentioned, size or condition unknown.

Another of Ross' Auctions in Maylands on next Wednesday 11.04.12 for unclaimed property, lots of junk bikes but of interest is a Dahon folder converted to a tricycle and hidden away with the trail bike pictures is a red Specialized S-Works MTB. Anybody missing something? Have a look at the gallery of pics before someone buys your bike (or coin collection, tools, ...).

I haven't done one of these auctions yet but that MTB is interesting.

You probably want to post this in the NSW sub-forum, mate... This is under the W.A. one.

Gawd.. I wish they'd just bury the motorbike & quadbikes as landfill rather than keep them in circulation in the hands of more bogan louts

Look on the bright side, when these get sold at auction they don't throw in a helmet.

Just another heads up, there's an auction at Orrong Rd, Welshpool WA next Wednesday and I've spotted a blue Birdy folder (8th bike in, page 3 of the gallery). And is someone missing 16 white MTBs of good quality, brand stickers all removed so maybe removed from a bike hire?

Might have to toddle along with you there, mate. :) I reckon those Whities could be ex-WA Police ? (cue 'Blues Brothers' quotes)
I really want to better sus out the workings of those Auctions, if only for the odd bit of shed furniture & tools. Bikes are just the honey at the picnic for this little ant :D

I am going to go down for a look as well. I am curious to see how much they sell bikes for. Plus I need a cheap roadie since I don't have one and I am desperate for one. Don't bid against me, or i may have to visit the wrath of the flatbar on you as you leave

I did go to one just as an observer about 10 years ago. Even then as my knowledge was a lot less than it is now I was struck by the amount of cheap nasty bikes; more commonly referred to as "BSOs" in these here parts. It seems easy come, easy go for those cheapies and probably why a lot aren't claimed and end up at auction in the first place.

I think anything of perceived value tends to be latched onto and prices for those then can be often be disproportionate. That said, a bit like lotto or a raffle; you gotta be in it to win it! A bit of discipline and patience would really be the name of the game, I think. Better to walk away empty handed than with an overpriced dud that in all likliehood will need more money spending on it.

Indeed. I would be more than happy to walk away with my cash if everything is just trash. But when cash is tight and if i can get the bike cheap enough it may be worth my while to clean something up and get a few new components. Wish i knew what sort of prices they generally go for. I have one in mind that I am hoping will be the bike for me.

There can be some professional seagulls at these things to. At similar computer auctions I've heard of buyers doing informal splits between themselves for various combined lots and such. Watch & learn, I guess.

Me, I'd be happy for a decent BB & cranks off one of those White MTBs... maybe spare set of disc wheels from the same, But I don't know if I'd want to pay anymore than about $30 tops.

I gave them a ring to ask if they know what sort of pricing they can go for and the lady said to come down tommorrow for the inspection and the staff on hand should be able to give you a good idea of what they will start at.
Better than nothing i guess and it will let me get a look at the items and if the starting price seems daft to start with then I will not have to go back the following day.

I will ask about the white MTB's for you HappyHumber and see if they can give me starting prices
